On Station Clarification / Request

Post by STKS »

Hi, after reading the 1.06 features I'm left slightly curious about one feature in particular.

When selecting how many aircraft are "on station" do you mean how may are in the patrol area / waypoint loop ? or does on station simply refer to the number of outbound aircraft in the air ?

The reason I ask is because when setting up long range support missions - AEW being the main example, I get frustrated to see an aircraft heading home on bingo fuel at the same time another takes off to replace it (often with 30 minutes of flying ahead of it) I would much rather have a "warm transfer" where the replacement aircraft arrives on station in time to relieve the first aircraft before it hits bingo.

This could be implemented based on the missions transit / patrol speed to figure out launch windows for a static patrol area ?

(of course if on station does actually mean on station, then this is all moot)

By definition, on station means the aircraft has checked in and is in the patrol area. So, assuming that's the same definition of on station that was in that update thread, then yes, relief aircraft will arrive before the patrolling aircraft check out and RTB.
