WHERE ARE ALL THE ITALIAN COMMANDERS?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

WHERE ARE ALL THE ITALIAN COMMANDERS?

Post by spinecruncher »

I searched through the info list, no GrazziannI, Mezzi, Balbo, Badoglio.

No wonder the Italians cannot put up a fight, their best commanders have been eliminated!

Balbo died in 1940.

Graziani was minister of war in 1943, not a commander in the field anymore.

Same thing for Badoglio whos was prime minister in 1943.

Mezzi, I don't know who you are talking about ?

But the idea is that available in game commanders are the one that had a command during that period.

Wow so all the best and most interesting Italian Commanders were already gone by Summer of '43. How sad [for this game.] Maybe as an alternate they should be made available in the commanders pool, or would this be too unhistorical? No, it's a game afterall.

The Italian leadership is not that important because it tends to disappear quickly anyway.

lol, had to read this thread again to be sure this guy was for real? It gave me a good laugh. As somebody mentioned, you can bring back some of the greatest Roman generals commander for the Italian army in may 43, it really won't make a difference.

But good news for you ballyhoo, the game has an editor. Thus, knock yourself out and add them all back to play your Italian fantasy WiTW! [:'(]

Graziani was not Minister of war until October 1943, and then of Mussolini's regime in Northern Italy.
Badoglio was appointed Prime Minister of the legitimate Italian government by King Victor Emanuel III in late July 1943.
So for at least the first 7 months of 1943, both are available.
The commander of the garrison in Sicily, Guzzoni, could be usefully added. After all his counterattack almost did reach the American landing beaches.

Well, the game begins in july 1943 [;)]

And right now, the Italian are scripted to surrender very early so no need to make a lot of works on italian commanders anyway.

But the first patch is said to add some more uncertainty about the italian surrender... We'll have to see what that means. Can Italy fight to the end of 1945 ? If that's the case, some more reflexion about italian commanders will be needed.

Best Italian commanders; did Italy have any? I think they kind of all sucked!

We're only adjusting the Italian surrender in the first few months. Without a huge German garrison in Italy, the odds are that Italy will surrender in 43 as long as Italy's been invaded (one tester reported it lasted until 1944 in one game).
All understanding comes after the fact.

Maresciallo d'Italia Rodolfo Graziani was the only Marshall of Italy to side with the RSI. Graziani was also the RSI Minister of War. He commanded the Armata “Ligurien” from 07/31/44 to 05/45.
