Is there a decent way to stop the Allies bombing campaign?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Is there a decent way to stop the Allies bombing campaign?

Post by NotOneStepBack »

Every turn as Axis (against a human), I am moving AA as much as I can, and running superiority missions over bombed areas, but the Allies are racking up 10-15 VPs a turn in bombing, doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. Anyone have any ideas?

Don't invade Poland.

Don't invade Poland.

Yup. He's right.

But if you do, I've found from the Allied side that concentrating aircraft defenders in one area tends to really hurt my raids. You'll lose to factory damage in other areas but a few good bloody noses for the bombers and the raids will happen a lot less frequently (at least the deep escortless ones)
You can't defend all Germany, so own one area.

I would stop the air superiority missions, your fighters are much more effective left as interceptors (default when no mission assigned). Air superiority will have your fighters flying in a box hoping the Allies fly by. With the new intercept formula's you want your fighters free to respond. The German cities generally have enough flak to disrupt Allied bombers. If you want to shoot down more planes place all of your new flak units in a belt along the Belgium, Holland coast in a checkerboard pattern. This hits the bomber streams no matter what their eventual target. Flak in Berlin will only shoot at bombers attacking Berlin.

If Allied tactical air hitting France hard put some light flak and mixed flak along the coast there too. There are some good flak units in France in places Allies will never hit so move them to where you need them.

Good luck.

Good advice here. I also laughed at "Don't invade Poland"

[:D] I have to stand up for NotOneStepBack, he inherited this war from an Austrian corporal!

New formula in the next patch?

I am using AS boxes and getting several 100 interecpts per turn and downing several 200-400 bombers per turn in air to air combat with a 3-6 to 1 ratio.

You sure your way is better? Any thing fling through my AS box's are getting hammered, my fighter #'s in the pool is going up.

I will try your way or both at same time which looks easy to do

There is no new formulas. Just more reactive interception.

Ok thks

I am going to try 2 AS boxes with the other 2 boxes turned off, but all the planes from the turned off boxes inside the 2 active boxes.

See how that combo works.

I have found that if your air groups are based in the target area they intercept pretty well. If you have the fighters based outside of the area you wish to defend is the best time to use an Air Superiority directive to get them to the right place. This works more for the Allies as they are advancing beyond their air coverage but also works for the Axis when you don't wish to have your fighters based where the bombs are falling.
