I found one issue when it can get "stuck" if air execution detail is set to medium or higher. It is caused by the interception code calling the redraw routine even if there is no interception was launched. This might get visible in case of big raids.
It is probably not related to the original issue as it was reported even with no air exec details. But in case anyone experiencing high delay on medium/high air execution details, please try to lower them to none/low and see if it helps.
I can confirm that on my system the air execution get 'stuck' on levels medium or higher. No problem with the low detail.
I have had a similar experience, with the air phase taking over an hour to execute sometimes. The computer I am playing WitW on handles most games superbly, including civ V at later stages of the game. So I don't think the problem lies in marginal specs or outdated drivers.
I am happy to reduce the level of detail in the air execution phase, as long as it doesn't compromise the quality of the results. But wouldn't it also make sense to change the way the game engine processes the phase too? What's the point of offering people a choice of levels of detail if in the end you can't use anything other than the lowest one?

There is a known bug when resolving it on medium/high settings. Will be fixed in coming patch.
Good to hear, Helpless, thanks.
Can you please explain what changing the level of detail does? Does it only affect what you see or how the engine processes the air phase?
same Problem: Grand Campaign 43 Air-Phase form AI (Allies): 25-30 Minutes
And at the logistic phase (german): ca. 15 Minutes. With a great break at "ressource transfer from pool " (not sure)
And there is there are 2-4 "Sec-lags", when i attack a Unit
I know that my Computer is an older Modell, but WitE runs nice.
With newest Update for Geforce 9800
Grand Campaign 43 Turn 1 Message Lvl= 0
Air Execution: 5 Min 50 sec
Amphibious/ Ai turn: 1 Min
Ai logistic: Longest Point at 66%: Resource Movement: moving from Pools: over 4 Minutes and the Mouse turns in a cycle (like a freeze),
Overall logistic pahse: 9 Minutes
Landing and Air transport (Scicily): 2 Min 15 sec
I am getting the same problem. 1943 Grand campaign. I am noticing a particular problem when the following occurs:
- Any decently sized large city raid takes place
- Large flyovers deep over enemy territory
This happens regardless of whether axis or allies.
I noticed this when doing a large bombing run against London as Axis (I tested with about a 250+ plane raid from France), and the same when allies make large bombing run against inland targets against Axis (try bombing with full escorts against Paris or other similarly situated targets that have numerous airbases for intercept).
I by the way have a desktop with very high end graphics card (R295x2). This seems like it is CPU bottlenecked more than anything else.

->Your Intel chipset is not properly detected by your OS (PCI standard xxx device instead of properly named device), this will show them properly and may result in a slightly better system performance.
BTW your SSD (drive C:) is almost filled, please cleanup your drive. You may also want to set your pagefile to Min/Max 2000MB, down from the 24000MB currently in use, wasting precious space on your SSD (or worse, using space on the slow HDD).

Sounds very much as interception map draw bug described above. You may try to set air execution details to low or none and see if it repeats.
The air execution unfortunately is already turned to off. I have tried with execution details on all available settings, low -> high and it has not made much difference in the game slowing up to a crawl.

Do you mean that you set detail to none? (shift-i key, one plane on the button)
I have slow 5-7 yo PC and it is fast enough resolving 1000 plane raids within reasonable amount of time.
Helpless, that is correct. I set the details to none to see if that was what was causing it during my initial sets of tests.
The key focus isn't simply the number of planes only. It is a combination of the number of planes and location of attack. For example, if I play the axis side, bombing Dover (regardless of number of planes) resolves in a reasonable amount of time. However, an attack by the allies into the heartland of Germany with numerous planes, or attack on London with a concentrated number of planes absolutely can bring the game to a screeching halt. It almost seems like the game is trying to figure out an algorithm for intercepts.
The reason it's so frustrating is that the game will go very quickly all throughout -- and resolve everything within just a couple of minutes at most - then the dreaded large airstrikes in certain locations occur, then everything goes haywire. I mean, even the resource movement from pools phase (which seem to take a while as well) seems very quick and expedient compared to what I experience with those strikes.
I will restart my campaign to see if it's the saves that are corrupted or not. Will report my findings after I do another batch of tests in the coming days.
Your tip to run the air execution phase with one or two aircraft on the detail button worked fine for my issue. It now executes in a minute or so, the logistics phase actually takes slightly longer. It is very playable now.

In case you still see significant slowdowns resolving big raids with air exec detail set to none or low, please post a save prior air execution so I could look at it. It could be something else causing it. Thanks.
I am fifty or so turns into the grand campaign. Have been using AI controlled air the entire time. Then, I finally read enough about the AD section and decided to give it a shot. Planned some big bomb raids in germany plus a lot of concentrated air striked on the front line. Before during the AI AD, I would wait maybe five minutes or so for the air phase. As I type this, I have literally been waiting over 45 minutes. It will pop up top and say {not responding} but still be plugging away. Aircraft effects periodically, etc.. After this much time it is still at 46 percent complete. I have detail set to none.
Does this mean until the patch we should just go with AI directives? It is unplayable like this.
