AI movement needs a serious look

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

AI movement needs a serious look

Post by Smirfy »

We know the AI needs to cheat but it is teleporting round the map and pulling off redeployments that are killing any immersion especially in lieu of the effect the air campaign is meant to have on transport. An example last night was two infantry regiments in Reggio Calabria totally surrounded evacuating and being replaced by an armoured infantry brigade and all their equipment. The next turn of course the brigade then evacuates and I'm not talking routing here under its own free will. Total and complete nonsense. The AI is so blatantly cheating it's ludicrous.

WitE had some issues like this early.

The best thing you can do to help is to get a saved game to Joel, so they can review it and make adjustments. This was the procedure in WitE and the teleporting issues got addressed.

I reported a similar issue with Reggio Calabria and they are aware of units getting out of Reggio that are surrounded. My problem was that when I attacked Reggio and had every hex, even the ferries, covered and both units routed to a non-port city hex over 10 hexes from Reggio in the middle of the toe of Italy. Landlocked city. #19 on the bug fixes.
