Some Logistics/Production Questions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Some Logistics/Production Questions

Post by Bamilus »

Hey all,

This is a dumb question but I've read most of the manual and I have question regarding railcars (rolling stock). Could someone please confirm if my understanding is correct for the two assumptions below?:

1) Each railyard has a certain capacity of rolling stock. Units use the nearest capacity up to 50 hexes.
2) Rolling stock usage causes congestion

3) My question relates to the railcar usage/congestion. Is congestion calculated each step of the way (between each railyard?). If a unit has to draw from rolling stock 5 railyards away because the others have no capacity, does the act of bringing that rolling stock from 5 railyards away add to the congestion/usage of all the rail-lines inbetween?

4) Also, could anyone help me to better understand the nature between production storage (in cities) and production pools? I understand that freight gets converted and then draws from storage/pool but I'm having a hard time understanding the relationship between city storage (local storage) and pools.

5) Lastly, the manual mentions that to motorize a unit it requires vehicles from the motor pool. It is my understanding that this represents vehicles (trucks) from the motor pool required to bring the AFV/motorized vehicles to the troops to be motorized, instead of representing vehicles from the motor pool actually used by the troops? I just want to understand the relationship between the motor pool and actual motorized troops/AFV's and if the vehicles in the motor pool actually are used for replacements/production or just used to represent trucks used in logistics.

Any help appreciated!

Sorry missed the post in Xmas excitement.

1) Yes.

2) No - movement through a hex causes congestion base on the tonnage being moved.

3) No - they are separate.

4) Me too - storage occurs at the point of production but the pools are virtual. The precise linkage is a mystery. Freight cashed in depletes the pools.

5) Trucks exist in three places - units, depots and the pool. Motorization adds trucks to units and draws from the nearest depot so will impact supply. Units and Depots get trucks from the pool in the log phase.
