Air Superiority Question

Post by NotOneStepBack »

If I run air superiority from a different HQ than one that is running a ground attack over the same hexes, is this effect the same as escorts, or are escorts inherently different in how they operate?

AS may support friendly raids when they are under attack in the AS area. The effect could be quite similar as to escorts, but mechanic is different.

So which would be better or does it depend? If you are lacking fighters in one HQ, would it be wiser to reassign them, or to run an A/S ?

If you need escorts they are guaranteed and more "cheap" in mileage (i.e. potentially less ops losses).

AS is more universal tool which does many things:

- Fights enemy AS in the area
- Intercepts enemy raids
- Tries to protect friendly raids intercepted in the area
- Adds to naval fighter values in the water hexes
- Collects mileage which then can be used to fly ground support strikes

Regarding AS

if I ,as Germans want fifgters and FB`s to intercept Allied heavy bombing raids is it better to assign AS eiher manually or automatically (eg medium) or not select AS as I understand that fighters will intercept enemy raids automatically even if AS is not assigned.

Which is the best way to attack the Allied bombers ? thanks

In most cases automatic interception does good enough job attacking enemy raids. AS can be less efficient if you have not enough resources, which is often the case for the Germany at this stage.

Could you possibly explain the last item? I didn't know mileage could be "collected".

Thanks.

Groups flying AS missions log miles flown them and it can be used later during ground support, so they can join ground support to which will be using these miles. It means that some AS groups can show up in GS strikes.
