Feature Request - msg level on ADs

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Feature Request - msg level on ADs

Post by Banquet »

I know there are probably a lot more important things to work on but could a feature be considered, when planning air-directives, for a checkbox to pause the game when that any flights relating to the AD are in progress? Then we could set an appropriate message level. Or even better have a box in the AD planning screen where we could type in a msg level if different from default - just for that AD?

You can't slow down all the air phase as it would take forever, but for some of the missions I plan I'd like to have the opportunity to set an appropriate message level and watch in more detail.

I've had success using the number keys for message level setting. 0 for the recce (usually) and 2-4 for the fights I want to watch. I've had to guess when to flip though.

I agree though that setting this as part of AD would be nice. Then I wouldn't miss any as the message level would automatically flip for certain types. So you've got my vote.

That would be a very helpful feature.

I currently have to watch a lot of Recon missions, which takes a lot of time (at message level 2) for very little info.

In fact this functionality is in the code and was used to develop AD Ai. It was decided not to include it into the playable version to simplify interfaces. Of cause it can be re-added on popular demand. :)
