RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start)
ORIGINAL: BBfanboy
16 Oct. 44 is really early - congrats on your progress!
If your advance has kept him off balance he may be less entrenched than he would be with another year of prep. Critically, he may not have had time to pull in troops from mainland Asia or islands he is abandoning. Good Luck!
![]()
I have been preparing for this for 3-4 months now and it really is challenging to get enough ground troops, ships and aircraft into place.
Propably would have needed 2-3 months more preparation but this has to do the job.
The idea was as you said to blockade the home islands and starve him before the assault could take place.
I have no idea what his supply levels actually are but I can guarantee no ships has sailed from DEI into Japan since Okinawa was seized.
I'am actually preparing to go into offensive in China and Burma as well but those have to wait a bit.
Somewhat confident that he has hard time bringing in reinforcements once Kagoshima and surrounding bases have fallen but I might be wrong so not going to anything irrational (except invaded Japan... [:D])
Appreciated the luck factor. You cannot have enough of that in this game!

Operation Cyclone (October 19th)
This mark as D-day +2 and things are rolling ahead as planned.
I spotted large amount of aircraft at Fukuoka most likely preparing to intercept allied invasion fleets.
This in mind I countered and launched large 4E raid there and scorched +100 aircraft on the ground.
The japanese airstrikes were not as well coordinated this time around and we downed some +150 enemy aircraft with CAP and only lost 60 planes.
The first assault againts Kagoshima was an success and the base is firmly in allied hands now....

The previous screen shot was showing Japanese ships in port at Kagoshima. Did you net any of them when you took the base?
What industry did you capture there?

GreyJoy: Definately so! Chris is an true gentleman and we mutual respect involved in our games!
BBFanboy: I think some of them were scuttled at least. There were not many to begin with and cannot confirm that since combat replay file got corrupted.
As for industry... Kagoshima does not have that much but all was captured undamaged.
Operation Cyclone (D-day + 6)
The heavy air to air battles have raged over the skies at Kagoshima.
Both sides taking serious losses in terms of fighters and bombers.
Allied 4E bombers managed to destroy some LBA aircraft at Fukuoka and Nagasaki but enemy presence is still strong.
The good news is that invasion TF's have left Kagoshima and I will bring in reinforcements soon...
Allied troops have now advanced into Kumanato just north of Kagoshima and it seems japanese are moving troops into position.
More than 200 000 men spotted if recon is to be believed and will have better intel next turn when bombardment run occurs.
I have just around 3000av in place there but quality of the troops is good so hopefully that is enough.

RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start)
Operation Cyclone / October 28th - 29th 1944
The battles around Kagoshima continue with fresh troops arriving in 2 days time. There are more troops earmarked for this operation as well.
Last turn ground battles at Kumimato resulted in an blood bath. I "checked" and his AV has dropped to 1780av so I'am ordering an deliberate assault here. I know it is a bit risky since he can rush reinforcements but worth the shot.
The second assault wave againts Kanyo failed but we will seize the base soon enough...
Allied B29 bombers have been busy bombing Tokyo at night. The flak is immense but worth every single bomb we deliver.
Overall very high aircraft losses for both sides with last to days resulted around 200 enemy ac's destroyed.
Elsewhere I'am still preparing for oncoming offensives but these will start in due time and when I'am ready. No need to do anything irrational....

There are couple of things and questions that this tells me...
a) He has still too much supplies stockpiled there! The question is how much can he have and what is the quickest way to drain it?
b) He has committed a lot of troops into this battle! How much more does he have in the reserve and can he build those units that were toasted back up?
c) He has still tons of aircraft and quality pilots...
The first naval bombardment of HI was also made when allied battleships visited Kumamato...

I need to swap second set of squadrons into frontlines soon and push these back for a bit rest... Not in an rush though.
As you can see a lot of fighting to be done before we conquer more land here... fun though.. very much fun and I think my opponent is enjoying making my life as hard as it can be...

He can bring in endless supply from his major producing bases all over Japan. If you can cut the rail line between Shikoku and Honshu you can whittle him down.
Is it feasible to send troops cross-country to Oite and take it, then go north?

Looks like he have commited a large portion of the LCUs available in Japan... Another amphibious assault would be useful...

That is pretty much what I figured but he will run out of it in due time.
Oita is definately doable soon but need first to vaporize Kanoya. I want that done before moving further up the north.
Actually moved in some tanks there so hopefully it is bagged when next turn arrives...
Quite diffrent fighting in his homecourt... [:)]

That is useful information since I don't have any idea what kind of emergency reinforcements and other stuff he recieved when we arrived at Kagoshima.
Pretty much only way from him to move units into HI is via airlift. The sealanes are good as closed for him and will remain so until the end.
I do have the ships but too risky to make another landing at the moment. A lot of aircraft around and need to deal with those first!

Operation Cyclone / November 3rd - November 4th 1944
The build up at Kyushy continues with allied recieving some fresh units.
Few of the battered fighter squadrons are also replaced with better trained and fresh pilots.
There is still no sign of the remnants Japanese naval assets. Those are floating somewhere between Singapore and Manila.
The airwar is intense with around 100 aircraft lost last turn as well.
Japanese definately have held back their most experienced pilots and their are putting up an fight for sure.
The allied reinforcements enter Kanoya with 4 tank units and another ground assault is scheduled next turn.
I'am still holding back some of air assets which I think is wise since we need grind through the main islands and there is no rush....
Elsewhere I did an feint assault in central China to see what kind of emergency / defensive reserves he has... it seems 15-20 units so that is good intel indeed.
Here is the pic from the game... we will see another flag at Kanoya soon!

Operation Cyclone / November 5th - 10th 1944
There are couple of major developments to announce.
Firstly the reinforcements have arrived into Kuyshy and that something to smile about.
The second good news is that we have conquered the Kanoya in southern Kuyshu. The city becomes 2nd japanese base to fall here.
Allied bomber HQ designated more bombers into supporting the allied offensive there and it paid off swiftly...

The aircampaign has been costly though. I have managed to clear enemy fighters and bombers from Nagasaki with heavy raids againts the city.
The good thing is that I'am not short on bombers and have flown more into nearby bases and some of the squadrons have been given a breather.
Now it is time recon around a bit and move forward with this operation.... plenty of things to do and get done.

Operation Cyclone / November 11th - 24th 1944
The battles continue in Kuiyshy island.
Allied bombers have been heavily involved in past days.
The bombers have made large raids againts Fukuoka and Shimoseki cities. Both cities have been burning big time.
Also we have heavily bombed Nagasaki and Fukuoka airfields. The reports indicate that enemy have lost 300 aircraft on the ground in past week.
Naturally this has taken toll on the bombers and fighters but we will keep pushing and give enemy no breaks to recover.
In the ground the stalemate continues at Kumamato but the first assault was made againts Oita last turn.
