How does one carry out amphibious landings?

Post by gtrpastor »

Hi. I'm currently in a game with two small continents connected by an isthmus. I can't seem to break through, so I decided to load up some cargo vessels with units and do an amphibious landing. I got the units into the sea just fine, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to land them in enemy territory. I've looked in the manual, tried searching the forum, and Googling it, all to no avail. How does one carry out an amphibious landing?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help you might provide.

Simply select the cargoship with units onboard and adjacent to land and then select a land unit. Use the Unload button (two up arrows) right next to the Load button. Select the land hex to unload on.

Thanks for the reply.

IIRC, I tried that, but it said that there were no units to unload (I have tanks and armored cars). Unfortunately, I am unable to load the game right now, but I'll try it again later according to your instructions.

Once they are loaded the way to unload is to select the unit loaded on the ship that will allow the unload button to highlight. You can only unload one unit at a time if you have more then one loaded. Further as I recall unless you enter a port you can not unload the turn you loaded.

You did use the load command to load a separate land unit right?

Just to confirm this is how naval transport looks, you have a Infantry unit loaded onto the transports. You click on the infantry to unload in a port or onto beaches.

On the panel above the Seventh icon showing a ship and a downward arrow are the icon used for loading units. The next icon ship and blue arrows is the unloading icon when you click on the transported unit, this icon is available and used to disembark the unit.

If you cannot load a unit it may be that the unit exceeds the carry capacity of the naval transports.

Thanks for all your help. I got it now. I was putting the tanks and the cargoships into the same unit instead of making cargoship-only units and loading tanks into them. I successfully landed my units!

That's a common mistake, you're not the only one having made that mistake. Weird thing is that fighters on a aircraftcarrier *have* to be in the same unit/counter, they are not a separate unit on the Carrier Vehicle.

Be sure to include an engineer unit with your amphibious forces so you can build a harbour. (to get the supply flowing). Also the key to break a heavilly defended line is Artillery, masses of them, and especially Heavy Artillery! Sometimes to break a difficult line such as hills/forests you'll need 40-50 tubes, even then it can be a tough fight.
