Border vs. Territorial Shading

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Border vs. Territorial Shading

Post by gravyface_ »

I gotta say, the border is pretty hideous and hard to determine what territory your units are in possession of and where the front is actually located (especially in heavily-wooded areas like southern Poland).

Has there been any mod that would add a shading instead of a border? Although completely different games, Unity of Command is just so much easier on the eyes and determining where the front is, what units are cut-off from supplies, etc. is so much easier with a high contrast shading vs. this clumsy border.

Depends which map set you use and the colour contrasts you get from them, for instance in the AgentS map preferences I am using, hex ownership (front-lines) are shown by shading. You can change the colours of the game border lines in Map Preferences, you can cycle the borders through national boundaries, or hex ownership with F6 (changes border draw mode), F7 Changes hex ownership draw mode). Mouse over the icons below the jump map, which do the same things.

I see the problem with some of the darker coloured map options, but personally I prefer the lighter shades of mapping (like the Agent series), the borders show up well and the hex ownership shading mostly works OK (Poland pale yellow is a little too pale)

I am using 'Agent B+W' for winter turns, suitably cold and grey, and 'Agent Retro' for the summer turns, which adds some seasonal immersion.

ToF has about the most comprehensive set of map choices, preferences and display options of any game, sometimes the colour contrasts are not perfect, but with so many combinations available I am not sure what more can be done. [:)]

Ah, ok. AgentS does not exist (unless by "S" you mean "X", i.e. a placeholder).

AgentB+W offers the highest contrast, but is a tad bland.

There are a lot of nice looking map mods out there; I wonder if they support hex ownership shading? I'll have to try them out.

Thanks again.

Sorry, the Agent maps were provided by AgentS who has done mods for this series of games, I like the board game look of these options and the shading shows up quite well. I know they are a bit pale, but after some time at the screen, they are easier on the eye.[:)]
