Won't leave contact

Post by tinjaw »

I have a surface ship which won't leave an underwater spotting alone.

In particular, FM 53 won't leave GOBLIN #42. I tell FM 53 to Drop all targets, and it does, but then re engages. I don't know for sure (as I haven't cracked open the editor), but my guess is that it is a mine and I want to leave it alone and go start my sub hunt to the NNE. I have plotted a course and cleared all targets and expected that to work.

Is there something I am missing? Is there some way to tell FM 53 to ignore GOBLIN #42?

You have "ignore platted course when attacking" checked off under "Unit Orders". As soon as you uncheck it, it moves away.

He said he dropped targets. I'm guessing the ROE is set to engage targets of opportunity and so it keeps retargeting.

He dropped contacts...look at the menu for Unit Orders and Attack options.

Basically what I think is happening is its immediately reacquiring and trying to attack.

If I tell it to NOT ignore path during attack, it will follow the path. But when it reaches the end of the path is retargets and engages.

And if I drop the target, it is reacquired.

I basically want to ignore the target without changing ROE so that it ignores all targets.

[update]

What I ended up doing, is waiting to drop the target until it was out of sensor range of the ship. However, I consider this only a temporary fix as if the target it detected again, possibly by a completely different platform, the ship will again attempt to engage the target.

Why not just mark it as neutral?

I hadn't thought of that. That's a good idea. I'll reload my game and try that tomorrow when I get a chance to play again.
