No Naval Attacks from CV/CVLs

Post by ny59giants »

I sent this to MichaelM....
Michael,

I'm still having issues. This last turn, Aug 22nd, saw my Allied CV/CVLs move to middle of Celebes Sea. My SB2C-3s were set on Naval Attack with 10% on naval search. TBM-1Cs were set for just naval attack. During both air phases, my CAP shot down his search planes and my SB2C-3s spotted multiple TFs within their 6 hex range. However, NO naval attacks happened. I had this problem at Kendari and it worked fine for you. If this is the case again, what is the solution?? Problems seemed to have started when my opponent, Olorin, installed the latest version of DBB scenario 30 (1201 - Timoeka was a base and then became just an airfield causing me to lose the size 1 port). Do I or both of us need to do a fresh install?? Or what??

Thanks again,

Has anybody else seen this before?? If so, what solution was there?? I know MichaelM will get back to me, but my fellow players may have a solution before him.

Possible factors that come to mind:

Maybe enemy CAP was too strong.

Maybe weather at launching base prevented launching.

Maybe weather at targets prevented attacking. Should see messages in Ops report.

Maybe the two above combined in morning and afternoon. Unfortunately, only the afternoon weather shows on the map during the next turn orders, so you can't see what it was in the morning.

Hangovers, man, hangovers. The Celebes Sea is hot and nobody moves during daylight!

He is facing ALL but one Allied CV/CVL in August '44 (Big 'E" only CV/CVL sunk to date). There were 6 TFs spotted at Jolo over to Tawi Tawi and one trying to get to Balikpapan. Weather was "Overcast" with next day going to be "Clear." Jolo showed just 36 fighters from mouseover.

My boys learn to swim first, seems to keep them alive longer. I had some issues with CV a/c flying at the end of my last bout. I f I remember correctly, I had 6 CV, 3CVL in clear weather launch 2 twenty five planes sorties. 10% of ALL attack a/c on search so there were plenty of spots. The range was 6-7 in 1944 and I had tanks on regardless set to 9 hexes. The game ended soon after and I do not have the turn. It was a private pout moment as the target was juicy, close, spotted, and I know I had the edge in a/c.

Low detection on the enemy TF can also play a factor. If the TF have just been found, then this could be a cause.
