The Battle of Seogeom-ri, 2015 -- new beta for testing

Post by Mgellis »

My newest beta...this one is a battle between South Korea and North Korea. The goal is to defend the island of The Seogeom-ri, located just over the South Korean border. North Korea is, for some reason, planning an attack. You have a task force and some aircraft. They have...well...who knows? :)

As always, please let me know what you think. Comments, observations, suggestions, etc. are all welcome.

ok.... this was good fun....

however.... red force attacked piecemeal and were destroyed in detail...
if the sing hungs were in groups of two in echelon... it would have been much harder and i would have to engage them with more assets... as it was i took my corvette and an f15 and gunned them down which was real fun... the corvette was cool and useful against these pt type craft...

the sin hung #34 never attacked and eventually went to the far corner of its its patrol area and parked.... maybe it ran out of gas....
if the chaho's had attacked in groups of 3 in echelon it would have been more challenging...... they really needed to be on a better path heading due south of heaju bay then close for the attack... as it was they were taking the shortest distance and some units got stuck fore awhile on the east coast of the bay and it screwed there swarm up making it easier to eliminate them....
the confined operating space did make it more difficult.....
the ships would prosecutes targets in the red zone.... but my aircraft would not... which i didnt understand.....
this was fun.... but it was easy to cream red force because of their underwhelming assets and they attacked without an organized force...

If you can give them give them a way point to attack from that might've been more effective for them… combined arms..? The missions supported with air craft...?

New version uploaded with some suggestions implemented. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

(By the way, my assumption in this scenario is that the North Koreans are not planning a full invasion. They do want to attack the island, maybe occupy it, but they're not thinking in terms of a major war. That's why the resources they have committed are moderate, not total.)

Scored a triumph, all seeming to work out well.
NK struggled as in this one the sub attack was identified as NK Romeo so I felt my orders allowed retaliation. As far as I can see from my ROE that was right, though it did mean I was ahead of the game mostly.
I struggled to stop air attacks on civilians etc as had by then run out of any sams. Lost one patrol ship to a surfaced torpedo attack which was a shock!

I Scored average.
At start I´ve sent a couple of Cobra attack helos to patrol over Seogeom-ri, which attracted interception by NK Floggers.
Two of my AAW laden F-15s where on patrol over the area. The closest one was fired upon. It fired back and dispatched the Mig. At this time I considered hostile any NK unit crossing the border to approach my units.
I don´t understand why the NK Haze ASW patrol helos should be treated as "unarmed helos" when they clearly overflew South Korean territorial waters to keep tags on ROK Navy units. This surprised me because shooting them down gave me a negative score. Unarmed or not they are dangerous NK military assets.

A probable bug; once the landing craft and escorts arrived to the island and triggered the NK counterstrike, one of my patrol corvettes was destroyed by a rocket barrage, despite having detected the launch early and ordered the ship to evade at 41 kts, it was sunk.
I know those rockets are unguided area artillery and are not as precise as artillery, but I´m puzzled how they´ve managed to score several hits on a moving target that size.

Despite these observations, I do keep enjoying Mark´s scenarios.

Thanks!

Agreed. Initially, I thought people might shoot it down by mistake before it did anything (which technically you are not supposed to do), but I think you're right. It will be fixed in the next version that gets uploaded.
