Units that have the equipment to laze do so automatically. To see this turn on illumination vectors under map settings. Budding lazing is as easy as adding a laser equipped unit in range of the target on the ground or using another aircraft in the vicinity. Make sure to check cloud cover as well. If there are clouds the laser will most likely need to be from a ground unit.

What you see here is an F/A-18E dropping two LGB's at two separate targets. Since the Hornet can only laze one target the SEAL team to the east is lazing the other one. All of this is done automatically.

dandin does that mean that you don't need to check the Laser pod "Active" in the Sensor setting?

No, it's completely automatic. You just order an attack and if the attacking platform is not able to lase, but somebody else is, it will happen automatically.

Sorry to be a pain, does this work when ordering a manual attack (Shift+F1)?

Yep. If there's no lasing source it'll tell you it can't drop. If there is it'll say it's ok to fire.

And also, if the lasing source gets killed while the bomb is falling, the bomb will go blind and miss the target. It's really quite well built I think.

There are 3-4 threads that have come up on this exact topic and it is all laid out in them.

tm.asp?m=3740502&mpage=1&key=laser&#3740738

tm.asp?m=3693815&mpage=1&key=laser&#3695403

A quick search using "laser" brought them all up.
