OK, I have a question (strictly hypothetical, of course):

..Suppose an Allied carrier is on a secret mission

..Let us further suppose that one of the TBD's spies a periscope

..Do the Wee Jap Dobbers get an intel message about being spotted by the Allied TBD?

I believe in the OPS report it may say if the plane was spotted by an enemy TF.

I've seen innumerable reports where a naval vessel sights an aircraft overhead and reports they have been spotted but I have never seen an aircraft report that THEY have been spotted.

I'm also not sure I have seen a sub report an air contact although it would be quite easy if they were running on the surface or had air search radar (not in 1941, of course).

Yes. You could say this is an unintended consequence of the attack on Manila on Dec 7. Once we identified all 6 CV's operating in the DEI, the USN and RAN were granted a window of operational freedom.

Two full, crack SNLF units would be big prize but we can't stay too long or we will be the prize.

This also opens and opportunity to reinforce PM and Noumea. Still thinking about that. Both spots can be traps for the Allies.

Yeah, I had that same window in my game, with KB hanging out at the PI and Singapore for an extended time.

Years of having the "Sir Robin" mentality beaten into me here made me fail to see what could have been.

OK. It is definitely not an Intel message. It will appear in either the Combat Events Report or the Operations Report.

**************Bar, Royal Hawaiian, now officially FOB "RH"***************

FAM: What about these wild mushrooms? Are they good?

Waiter: Everyone seems to rave about them, sir.

FAM: Hmmmm? <Glances at intel report>
PBY-5 Catalina sighting report: 5 Japanese ships at 165,111 near Johnston Island, speed 17, Moving Southwest

Hmmmmm. Are these the same mushrooms they have been serving at Ford Island NAS?

Waiter: Not sure, sir. We get ours from an Indian supplier, nice fellow, long hair.

FAM: Indian Indian from India or the other kind?

Waiter: Oh, the other kind, Navajo, I think.

FAM:Ah, let me have the carpaccio please.

California Fish and Game is releasing 750,000 salmon hatchling in the headwaters of the Sacramento River because the water has been too hot (due to low flow) for the eggs to hatch.

With all this effort I was thinking...do salmon ever swim up 400 miles of river, jump up 4 fish ladders, evade 400 bears, 120,000 fisherman and 1000 eagles until their flesh is falling off and their fins are worn to nubs and all they want to do is you know what and then die...and finally, they reach a shallow, gravel-bedded stream somewhere in the Sierra Nevada with crystal clear snow-melt, perfect oxygenation, cover from predators, shade trees...and then.....

"Oh crap! I don't remember any aspens. And the big stump, where's the big stump? Hell, this is all wrong! I made a wrong turn somewhere!"

***********Christmas Day**********

Rabaul: IJN disappears. USMC pilots in obsolete dive bombers with way to many windows scare them away. No attack by land today.

Sorong: The Dutch has 3 seaplanes and two seaplane tenders at Sorong..but somehow..half of the IJN seems to be standing offshore when the sun comes up. Mouseover shows no less than 7 BB's [:D]

Aesthetically, it's not horrible, especially with the snazzy baby blue paint job. Still looks like a flying greenhouse. Engine seems kind of wimpy. Not even clsoe to being the most unattractive carrier aircraft.

Balikpapan: B-17's from Soerabaja get 2 refinery hits on Balikpapan.

Java-jima: More Dutch pilots get blown up trying to hit LYB shipping near Java-jima.

Manado: Still in Dutch hands. The WJD's ashore are inadequate to take the place.
