The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

heard may good things about this game. so i am considering it

i played advanced tactics a while back. how does this game compare.

one concept i had trouble with in advanced tactics if i remember is figuring out when new units are created how to break down and create a battle group. how many tanks in this "container" how many infantry to go along with it etc.
is this game designed the same way
thanks for your insights

This game is closer to operational level than to grand tactical. If you are a micro-manager, it is not for you. If you think like a general rather than a sergeant or a quarter master, then I would highly recommend the 'Warsaw to Paris' game. [The 'Case Blue' version is a dud that scales poorly . . . leading to "WW-I on the Western Front" transplanted to southern Russia in 1942. There is absolutely no room for maneuver.]

You cannot create units. You cannot re-organize units. Your orders of battle are set - as by history. The main decisions are where to concentrate, how fast to advance, how long and where to hold . . . and remembering to use artillery and armour as intended. That, and keeping your forces in supply and command.

It doesn't really compare to ATG.
It is a historical simulation with one of the best, IMHO, engines yet at an operational level. The importance of maneuver, air power and combined arms really shine through. If you are interested in the Poland campaign and/or France 40 this is a game that should definitely be on your hard disk.
Plan? What plan? Attack!!

No ATG "containers" here. But there are lots of counters, which is a significant form of micromanagement. Also, we are not addressing the scenario editor where you can create and add new units - and just about everything else - to your heart's content. Other consideration is the three WtP scenarios are large - great but large. CB may offer more constricted maps, but some are more manageable size-wise.

Both DC games are very good. If you want to make history and not just re-visit historical battles I'd highly recommend Advanced Tactics Gold. Via its random game engine it has endless hours of enjoyment.
