I got a gift today and am pretty pumped up and just wanted to share

Post by MatJack »

I was given a gift of this course today by my mother who knows I enjoy books about WWII and Military history and knows that I like to listen to audio books when commuting to/from work "Masters of War: History's Greatest Strategic Thinkers" http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/ ... nkers.html.

I was really excited after looking at the course guidebook that came with the CDROM's and decided to go online to see what else they had. I found this "The Decisive Battles of World History" http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/ ... story.html. When I told my Mother that I intended to buy this she left and came back with that as well............she had bought both at the same and intended to give this second course to me at another time. We both laughed and I gave her a big hug.

Anyways, others here may want to go to that site and take a look around. Some of the stuff is pretty expensive so you may want to look carefully for sale items if you intend to buy. Also realize that the subjects being offered up seem to be pretty vast (site is not just WWII, history or Military...lots of subjects covered).

Jack, that is a great gift! The Great Courses are world renown, they have sales all the time (70-80% off). If you are interested register on their website and they will e-mail you the sales that are going on...enjoy your course! [:)]

Congratulations on recieving such a nice gift.

You are very lucky to have a parent who takes the time to know your interests and then to support them.

Congratulations on starting the Great Courses. There are a lot of history courses available. I would recommend Robert E Lee and his High Command and American Civil War. Both are taught by Gary Gallagher and are very informative and entertaining.
Cheers, Jim

Thanks everyone. So far I'm through 4 sessions of Great Thinkers and have recently bought 4 more courses. I bought a set that included one course about Hitler and one course about Churchill and two more non-military related courses, one dealing with Math and the other dealing with Electronics. These last two are for viewing on the PC and are to help me get back what I forgot.

Anyone else with experience with these courses, I'm starting a wish list on the user account section of that site so that when I'm ready for more I know what to get. Please feel free to suggest any and all that you felt were well done and money well spent. The audio courses take the drudgery of driving to from work and make it something to look forward to. jimi3, the Robert E Lee and his High Command and American Civil War set have been added, thank you.

Good for you. It's nice to get a gift that really is cool like that, where someone put a lot of thought into it.

I have 23 The Great Courses audio books. Of course most are in history(17) and 6 in science. The Great Courses are great any time, especially when driving. I listen when gaming!!
