Is friendly fire simulated ?

Post by JeF »

Hi again,

I think the question has been asked already, but I need to know.

The other day, I was playing the Beach Assault with the XXXth corps and 82nd Abn. I managed to put a para bn on defense at the edge of the map, on the main road from the south (quite gamey IMHO, but the AI will not complain here).

German reinforcements came precisely from that spot. At night. They were stopped by the para, and most of my arty, being on call, began to shell the newcomers. Man, do I like this "on-call" feature ! Right on the spot !

But I began to fear for my own men. As all took place in a small space, limited by the edge of map, was there risk of casualties on my side ?

Is friendly fire simulated ?
Is there more risk with air support ? Or bigger arty ?

Did a quick test.
Airstrikes aiming and coming down at your troops, no problem those planes will drop their eggs on their own troops.
Also placed an order for a bombardment on my own troops (without enemy troops in the neighbourhood) but in this situation the artillery refused to fire.

Correct. Those flyboys will drop their goods on just about anyone. However, the arty has a safety radius which means they will cease fire as soon as friendlies come within the radius. So no gamey tricks here, nor are cold blooded tactics allowed. :)
