Sorting you information

Post by Legatusi »

Is there a mod that make it easier to sort information?

If you play in a "huge galaxy" with 1400 stars you end up with a lot of ships i want to know if there is a better way of accessing information about your ships. example i want to see frigates only, frigate that are not in a fleet only, all ships in system X, right now it painful to try to find some ship if you have a lot of them. I think this game need some more filter for information.

The game is not that kind of moddable. You can change graphics items, and add new races, components, research trees, story stuffs...

I have not felt your issues, and some are somewhat easily done with the current UI.

Ships not in a fleet are found by sorting military ships (filtered) on fleet. It may or may not work to sort them on maintenance or name first to try to separate them by class. I don't run a lot of unfleeted ships, so it is not an issue.

Ships in a certain system is a location sort of the ship list. It kind of works. "unfleeted" ships in a system can be an issue if there are very many in the system, and it is back to the "does double sort work" (which I doubt).

To reduce the pain, I would suggest to have some patterns to what goes into fleets. For instance having destroyers and larger as fleet members, and frigates as unfleeted ships. Also, with default designs it is probably a bad idea to have even destroyers in fleets since they lack the range of the big boys.

Apart from that, there are lots of UI improvements that would be welcome, and sorting/filtering is one of them.

Yeah theres a lot of mods than add a lot of stuff in to game it seems, i want to try the beyond universe when its finish. But right now im not concerned about 20 species not being enough. Its ironic that a simple better sorting list cant be modded in such complex game right now its seem the bigger problem for me.
Also we already have double sorting you can select for example troop carriers and then sort them for system, the problem is military ships are all putted in the same tab which is fine in the beginning but when you have 50 escorts and 100 frigate and you want to find a destroyer in certain system can be time consuming, i think it help if you name all your ship or designs like ESC, FRG, DST, CRS, and so on.

The escorts, destroyers and frigates default to design names and numbers. They switch name at some milestones, though.

What I meant by double sorting is:

1: Sort by ship maintenance.
2: Sort by system.

You end up with ships sorted by system which for each system is sorted by maintenance. I don't think DW supports that, but it would be nice.

For me, the only single ships I ever search for are resupply ships, and if I fail to spot them on the map the resupply ship list is not exactly long in any case... The situation where I miss some class code in the name is when ships are under attack. It would be nice to see at a glance if it is an exploration ship, carrier or cruiser. There are some clues in names, though. I may not care about exploration ships under attack, but a fleet getting attacked is newsworthy, for instance.
