RE: GD1938 GAME 16
Great Britain and France resisted the German, Spanish, and Italian assaults. We counterattacked the Spanish and drove them away from Marseilles, but took losses in doing so which were painful.
We sank three U-boats, but the enemy is astoundingly hard to find. If the United States goes to war with Germany they can help with the Battle of the Atlantic, and we hope they are better at finding U-boats than we are.
In North Africa both the French and British have closed with the Italians.

The Soviet Union openly declared war on the United States and attacked her. If the Soviets want war, war they shall have.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
RE: GD1938 GAME 16
France and Great Britain waged war in Europe and North Africa without any earth shattering events.
The Royal Navy had a major ASW battle near Bergen. They spent a lot of time seeking U-boats in the North Atlantic without finding one.
In the Far East the Japanese demanded that Great Britain expel some (few) Chinese units in Hong Kong. Since the only way to end an alliance is to declare war the units were forcibly destroyed by the AI. British losses were far greater. The diplomatic model needs a simple "End alliance" button, with an understanding that units in now non-allied nations must move out. Another much needed feature is a message before any declaration of war indicating the nations that will be belligerent after the DoW. This is specially needed in complex alliance structures. The game system knows who will be at war, and the information needs to go to the player, along with the far more trivial message that the DoW will cost zero points. Let's just say the implementation of diplomacy by the game/mod engine is not subtle.
One more point : Great Britain and the United States were allied in the real Second World War, however if a multi-unit convoy appeared at the Canadian border and stated it was heading for Toledo, Ohio someone would have asked to see the invitation. There is no way the Chinese should be able to enter Hong Kong unless the British invite them in. Japanese troops were on two hex sides of Hong Kong and I did not want the Chinese to get me into a war with Japan.
I know it is difficult to see why these diplomacy items are an issue, but I assure you that a message "Eighteen battles have been fought due to your declaration of war" really, really gets your attention.

I don't recall placing any Chinese units in Hong Kong cpde but if I did I'm sorry. I was trying to them separate from British forces after what happened in another game I played as Chinese. Did they retreat there after a Japanese attack maybe?
RE: GD1938 GAME 16
@Falco,
The retreat is a real possibility. I am really glad it was not a game ending catastrophe. It could have been.

Are we like late Rome, infatuated with past glories, ruled by a complacent, greedy elite, and hopelessly powerless to respond to changing conditions?
RE: GD1938 GAME 16
Great Britain and France had some successes this turn, and some lapses.
Here is the butcher's bill for Great Britain. Notice the submarines destroyed. We are taking losses on the U-boat
and other naval forces counter-attacks, but this is still a good set of numbers.

The US has shipped more troops to Japan and supplies. The Soviets have started a war they can not win. Shortly the US will be at full war production and will begin to crank out tons of war materials.

Great Britain and France are scrambling to resist the Germans and Italians, but we have been doing that for a year.

RE: GD1938 GAME 16
Chinese confidence and morale now at an all-time high. One successful attack west of Kaifeng completely eliminated on one Japanese unit. In the south more ground is liberated without a even a fight after apparent Japanese withdrawals. In Northern China massive Soviet offensives seem to sweep everything before them and the Japanese navy appears to be in complete disarray after another pounding from the Russian Air Force.
The entire Chinese people give their thanks to the USSR & the mighty Stalin in this crusade against the Nippon imperialist rapists and murderers.

RE: GD1938 GAME 16
China makes one attack south of Kweisui which unfortunately hurts us more than the Japanese. However small territorial gains were made south-east of Kweisui and nearby Hong Kong without any resistance apparently due to the Japanese abandoning the areas concerned.
In the north the Soviets appear to be right on the border of Korea.

Great Britain and France continue to fight hard against the Germans and Italians.
The RAF struck the tormentors of the French after Lille was taken. The RAF Fighter Command has many fighters protecting the Isles.
The Royal Navy sank 6SS3 and is seeking more.

Tientsin was captured and by the Soviet Union who after initial suspicion the Chinese are now treating as liberators. Peking is within grasp and with it the city of Kweisui that will surely fall as it supply flows along the supply lines that will be cut with the capture of these cities.

France and Great Britain continue to fight off the Germans and Italians. As usual the battle is a see-saw with some
good results and some bad. The RAF air attacks were not as successful as we would have liked. The French mounted an
armored attack that destroyed 8Art2 among other kills
One delightful result was finding 2SS3 in Luanda getting supplies! We hope we were able to pen them in.
Here is a map of a Royal Navy sweep line in the North Atlantic. This line sank four U-boats this month.

The Americans asked me if I was aware they were at war with the Soviet Union. I was vaguely aware of this, but if either side or both would give me some idea of why I would be glad to help broker a peace between the big "U"s.

Get the Soviets to leave Japan alone. And return her territory. Failing that I see no possibility of peace.
