I was looking for a lighter (than, say, WITW) game to play when I didn't feel like racking my brain over air directives and amphibious landings. I had played Panzer Corps, and though I liked it, I always felt I was playing a tactical game pretending to be an operational game.

So I picked up Warhammer though I know nothing about the history behind the game universe. It looked like fun.

And it is. It is a very nice tactical game system, not complex, but fun and challenging. I just worked my way through the tutorial campaign, which I understand is supposed to be easy, and am about to embark on a "real" campaign.

And I honestly think the game engine works better as a tactical level system.

Wikipedia has article about that and several other pages worth of it. Massive hardcover rule book covers it in more detail. New ones cost some 60 $/€, but I imagine used old edition rule books would be cheap. Or you could ask one for loan from your friends. Ooh, there's an wiki too.

Welcome to the genre [8D]
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Yes, I actually read a couple of the Wikipedia entries about the series last night. I had no idea how much there was. Very interesting.

I just bought the game. Download in progress...

I hope I like this one better than I liked Panzer Corps...
