New Patch unable to play
Have downloaded the latest patch but the problem that I had with the last patch still persists. I do a couple of moves then the game stops working and closes down. Never had a problem with previous patches.

Please uninstall all, even delete your older folder, install a fresh new 1.00 than this 1.6.2 latest patch and report back please.
RE: New Patch unable to play
Yes I did that - but.....
There is some gubbins about Visual C++ (whatever that is) needing to be repaired (although I go through the repair process). Is that a possible issue?

Yes, just choose repair or install all the software required please.

Yes I chose repair and it seemed to do whatever it needed to do. The game is there, it's loaded, but it crashes after a couple of AH attacks.

RE: New Patch unable to play
Hey, could you provide a savegame that would allow us to reproduce the problem?
(btw: you don't have sound blaster soundcard, do you?)

RE: New Patch unable to play
Sorry I am not much help:
a) I have no idea what soundcard I have nor where to look to find out. Please let me know
b) I cannot find any save games. I have located a couple of folders that has CTGW "stuff" in them but nothing like a saved game. Given that the game only has two moves and then crashes would it even have a saved game?

RE: New Patch unable to play
Guideline reporting, crashes, bugs or errors:
* Always start a new thread/post for a new issue, as it is easier to keep track of all bugs for us.
* Please include the version and build information seen in the top right corner of the credits screen.
* What problems do you see. E.g. which screen you are looking at, which buttons did you press to repeat the problem. How does the game go wrong, is your crash repeatable?
* Provide details of your machine (operating system, CPU, video card, memory) - best is to attach a Directx Dialog file.
* Attach the ctgw.log file within your thread/post - see below for instructions on how to generate the ctgw.log file.
* Attach the autosave file within your thread/post - see below for instructions on how to generate the autosave file.
* Attach a Directx Dialog file within your thread/post - see below for instructions on how to generate a Directx Dialog file.
* Attach a screenshot picture (press Ctrl+P at any time to save a screenshot, screenshots are auto-saved in "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War") of the game crash in your thread/post.
How to get a Directx Dialog file:
1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. open the text file, copy the contents, and post along with your issue.
How to get the ctgw.log file:
If you ever get an error or crash, please attach the ctgw.log file to your report, this will help us identify the problem. It's more useful if the error is during the AI turn, but it would be good for you guys to get used to uploading these logs. The logs are in your Documents, so the default is "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War"
Even if you're reporting a bad move by the AI, it would be helpful to see the log as this gives us a much clearer idea of what was going on when the issue occurred.
IMPORTANT: This log is overwritten every time you start the game. Please make a copy of the log after any crash/bug you want to report before reloading the game.
How to get the autosave file:
Autosaves can also be useful, especially if you can repeat the bug from the autosave. These are also in "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War\Save"
IMPORTANT: This save file is overwritten every time you press end turn. Please make a copy after any crash/bug you want to report before pressing end turn again.
NOTE: Please put your attachments in a .zip or .rar format, before you upload it here on the forum, if not, it will not upload at all.
If you follow these steps it will make it a lot easier for us finding the problem, fixing it and getting you up and running asap!
Thanks in advance.

Okay - I'm sure some people understand all that - but not me sadly.

This looks like installation problem, did it finish correctly? Please re-download installer and re-install the game.

Thanks for the PM. Sadly - and as you can probably tell from my earlier posts I am not computer literate and do not have access to skype.
I can play the likes of WIF, Rome Total War, CIV IV all without problem so do not think its an issue with my computer - but then if others are not having this problem then maybe it is?

RE: New Patch unable to play
could you please describe problem exactly then? Are you able to reproduce it with exact same set of moves? Say you move this unit there, this unit there and then it crashes. Which scenario? Which side? The more the better.

I am trying to play Global War (the only scenario I am interested in).
I have to change the resolution each time (it does not seem to remember or have a place to confirm the change made). I change to 1680 x 1050.
I choose single player and Entente.
The Austrian Garrison moves, then two infantry. Both attack at which point the game stops. Interestingly perhaps I cannot take a screen shot of this???
This is the first screenshot I am able to capture

RE: New Patch unable to play
Just started a game, this time with me as CP. I move all three AH infantry and attack the exposed Serb unit. The attacks reduce the Serb to 2-strength. I then click next turn and the same thing happens.
Once again there is no screenshot available just the splash screen?

I may have a solution. I had the same problems, did a complete re-install and the game played fine when launching from the install panel of the patch. I played a few turns and then exited. When I opened it again, I got them same error messages. Then I remembered the launcher did not patch until after a re-boot. I rebooted and everything's fine so far.

- I have re-installed twice now.
- When you say re-boot what exactly do you mean?
- While downloading both the original game and the patch, did you get any message about C++ needing repair?
