Incompatible FB Mission Settings

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Incompatible FB Mission Settings

Post by AdmiralFatcat »

I keep getting this for a great many of my FB squadrons/groups when trying to assign planes to a bombing mission. What do I need to change so that they are compatible and can fly missions (either as escort or as bombers)? I can't seem to find the answer in the manual. Either it is not there or I'm not smart enough to find it.

Is the issue a day/night setting?
Is the bombing at night and the FBs are day only?

FB-F is fighter mode

FB is bomber mode

You can click either the FB or FB-F to change it to the other, if that helps

I've tried to make sure that every command is set for Day bombing. Night bombing doesn't seem to be doing well at all so I switched RAF Bomber Command to Day. RAF Bomber Command is the command I'm currently having a problem with but I've noticed it in other commands also. It is denying me the use of a lot of planes.

I've noticed that most if not all of these groups are set to Bomber, which is what I want them to be. Changing them to Fighters would take them out of action for 8 turns and make them less effective as bombers when they came back.

There are two settings for FB. Trained and mission. Trained flag defines air group's efficiency and doesn't create any restrictions. Mission setting creates restrictions. For example, if FB mission set to bomber and it is called for the fighter type mission (ex. AS), it would create a "no fly code" message incompatible FB mission setting.

Change the mission setting FB or FB-F in the directive screen, not the unit detail.

My mistake was in confusing the training setting for mission setting. Thanks to Helpless and Baelfiin for clearing this up. I must be getting old.
