Having more than 1 version of CTGW

Post by operating »

Kirk

An MP opponent of mine has both 1.60 beta (which we play on) and he uses 1.62 in SP. How is this done? I'd like to download 1.62, but I am not sure how to go about it step by step without screwing up existing MP games. I'd appreciate your help, your a good explainer.

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, I will post here shortly a series of screen shots, on how to add a second version of the game into a new game directory, other than the DEFAULT.[:D]

Bob once you have the base game installed to your PC, when you add the new 1.62 patch, remember you will have to follow all the previous steps, so that it updates the game you now have in the "GAMES" directory.

Followed your instructions highlighted in red. 1.62 is in games folder, click autorun, r-click OPEN a new style CTGW window appears, then click PLAY, screen blacks out then the new style window comes back. No scenario selection window appears. What am I missing? I'll check my desktop for a "new icon" after this message.

Kirk, As you should know, my CTGW base game has been in PC for years. Was I supposed to re-install it to GAMES? I'm a little confused.... Let me put it this way: Was I supposed to uninstall CTGW, then re-install it to GAMES?

My desktop CTGW icon is still in the 1.60 version under CREDITS (which I believe it should be for now).

When You do a new install from your CD, it will change your desktop CTGW icon to the very first version off the game, which I think was 1.1.2 ?

Another way to do it, which I think should work Ok, is if you go to where your base game is at the present time, right click on the CTGW FOLDER, which will copy the whole thing, if you then paste this into the GAMES directory, you will then have the game in that directory.

Ok, I did not understand the part about shoving my CD "back into" the tower, for I figured it had been downloaded onto my hard drive already.

If I understand you correctly now: Shove CD into tower, download it to GAMES, then life should be good to play 1.62.... (I hope)..... I'm not doing anything till you give the OK (mind you, the update 1.62 is already in GAMES).

Thanks again, Bob

Bob I have just tested it on my system and the copy & paste option works as expected. Whatever copy of the game you want to use for single play, COPY & PASTE it.

STEP 1 : Copy the game that you want to use for SP.

STEP 2 : Paste it into the "GAMES" directory.

From OS (computer on yours), The COPY & PASTE worked beautiful, then did another 1.62 update to GAMES. But I still cannot find a way to launch the new version? The only thing I can think of, where I fouled up is: I went doc/my games/CTGW copied that file, then pasted it to GAMES (which only gave previous SS, no game stuff). Then went to OS/Slitherine/CTGW then copied that file only to go back to GAMES to paste it there, then updated again. I felt it should work, but I cannot find an icon that will launch the 1.62 start play window, I will get a new style play window, however it won't launch. I'm thinking maybe I should uninstall everything and start all over again, not sure....

By default the game saves to the following directory.

Local Disk (C:) / Program Files / Slitherine.

Mine goes OS (C)/Program files (86x)/Slitherine. Can't get Slitherine at OS (C)/Program
