How do you (save/) post a screen view? I saved a .SLY file but I don't think I am moving in the right direction.

Thanks as always

One way is to have the window you want to screen shot "in focus" i.e. the window with the bar at the top not in grey, likely in blue for most Windows settings.

Then hold down ALT and press your Print Screen (Prt Scr) key. Then open Paint (or some other graphics program like Photoshop) and select Paste from the edit menu or just type CTRL-V.

The window's image you captured should then be seen in the graphics program window. Then save as jpeg. If you don't use the ALT key in combination with Prt Scr, you'll capture your entire desktop.

There's also free screen capture programs you can download and install. A number of people here have recommended one called Greenshot.

As for posting the pix, you can reply to any message in a thread and at the bottom you can select "Embed picture in post" then click on the Upload link to the left of that and browse to where you stored your picture on your computer, select it and just follow the prompts from there.

I use GIMP2 (freeware) for pasting and editing my screen caps. It has a modest learning curve, is very powerful and (best of all) it's free. When exporting images for posting I found that jpg works best.

Geez, I follow the steps (obviously I'm not a computer guy) and attempt to post and get a message that I'm not allowed to post a link within 7 days of my 10th post. Whatever.

Thanks anyways

It wouldn't be a link, it would be an upload of a file. Also you can browse without logging in - were you logged in?
