How I play Command (now)

Post by erichswafford »

For the longest time, I would blow through scenarios at high time-compression, the little icons would swirl around and basically stuff would blow up and I wouldn't know exactly why or how it all happened.

So, about a month ago, I decided to *really* slow down. You know what? The game is just way more fun like that. I still use time compression (usually 5 or 15sec with no-pulse) until I see something interesting about to go down. Then I will drop back to real-time and just...watch.

This has allowed me to achieve a much better understanding of how everything works, but it's also just way more *fun*. Playing a scenario is now more like a collection of small stories where most of the entertainment comes from watching these little dramas play out in real-time. It also allows me to fine-tune what's happening and, in general, feel more invested in the action. My imagination provides all the explosions and frantic radio-calls :).

Anyway, if you're like I was and find yourself just blowing through scenarios to get to the end, try playing this way instead. I think you'll find it's a lot more satisfying and plus you get to appreciate just how hard your AI-controlled units are fighting for their lives.

For me… I like the management… Assessing the opposition… Controlling the disposition of my forces… And the planning involved in successfully completing the mission… And as I am An obsessive micromanager there is always something to do.....
Also I love playing on this map this Google earth… While I play on my other screen I also have Google earth pro up… And so I study and learn the geography at the same time… also earning about platforms in their system same capabilities… This game is incredibly intellectual and educational…

I wondered if I was the only one who did that. I will often pause and look things up that I find interesting, like some weapon I'm not familiar with. This game is better when you savor it.

First play through of any scenario I play slow, sometimes taking days to finish one. Later replays I blast through parts that I expect to be slower action (which can have bad results heh).

I actually imagine the action happening on my head when I follow the icons on the screen
