Log Bridge, 1989
NATO vs. Soviet Union
Date/Time: 4th September, 1989 / 05:45:00 Zulu
Location: Norwegian Sea, Denmark Strait
Playable Sides: NATO, USSR
Background
The fighting over Keflavik has been so heavy that what remains of the airfield, currently held by NATO, is unusable. At the same time, the fighting in Europe has placed demands upon available resources that preclude either side sending long range aircraft to attack or defend Iceland. The fate of Iceland will therefore be decided by a decisive surface battle.
This is ASW / ASuW scenario with a duration of two days.
I convert from Harpoon CE GIUK Part Scenario. Have a good time and feedbacks, results, bug reports are welcome.

RE: Log Bridge, 1989
When I get a chance I want to try this…
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Nice Scenario - got my butt kicked! Grumble grumble!
A couple of small points:
Will try again shortly.
B
A couple of small points:
- You should clear the message log prior to saving
- The BB's did not have SH-3's aboard, usually they carried the 2-4 of the RQ-2 Pioneer. The SH-3 is not overly useful in a Mar Recce role as it doesn't have a radar anyway - the best use for this bird is the dipping Sonar. This is good for hunting subs next to the BB but none of the escorts are fitted to carry them. A Canadian DDG could but I think the smallest thing the USN used them on was an LSD
- I might have a UH-60 or HAS-3 on Mar Recce - they are quite good at it.
- You should give all units a short nav plot and a speed prior to saving.
- The formation for the NATO SAG is a bit wonky, might want to tighten up the CG's and put the FF's and DDG's forward on Sprint & drift
Will try again shortly.

RE: Log Bridge, 1989
^^^ what Gunner says about the helo's and the BB.... An LHD or LSD would be nice.... But even Sprunce with a couple more SH60 b's would be good.... They have good sensor suite and with Maritime search load out they have really decent range.... I haven't gotten into the fight yet but I'm closing and hoping my subs will take a couple of red units out before my surface group is discovered.......
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Played it through, great.
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
I think you should add a few little things for ambience a little depth… like maybe a little higher Seastate or little foul weather… Maybe a couple city markers… Even though Keflavic is not active you could put something there so it is at least on the map… but I am enjoying this scenario…
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Yes, and some whales and also tuna fish would be nice.
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
I should've been working on my taxes.... Instead I was playing the scenario till two in the morning… And then I was getting my ass kicked… I'm going to try again to do it a little different… I started out well… My SSN and took out three of their ships before it was destroyed...
I used maritime patrol settings on the Seahawks… I had good range and good sensor suits... But as I was moving into attack them with my harpoons… I got creamed…

Hey great stuff, would love to see some more classic Harpoon scenarios in Command.
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Okay. I had checked some feedbacks, and upload new version.

Cool.... Really fun... The second time I played… I added the base models Sprunce with two Seahawk be models… And took out the helicopters off BB....
I'm down to blue eight units… Red six units... But the Frunze and a Soveremany have ben hit.... I'm just about down to getting into a gunfight here now… But they have subs so I don't know how this is going to and yet… my score is currently zero… Which I think may be good…

WELL... I GOT 800 POINTS.... GOING TO DO THE UPDATED ONE NOW....
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
something is not right in this version.... the red surface group was heading south at 20 knots then turned west and parked itself off the coast of greenland at two knots... thats no fun... and i was really in to this....

I found that problem. That is Biologic Orcas in Greenlaned Sea, When Fleets found them, it change ASW offensive situation. Also I check on Sprint & drift option and PZ point. So release new version, thanks feedback.
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Ok jun... Thanks... I will load the latest version now…
RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Just a heads up - Im not sure how it works or even if this is a problem, but - the *ini file and the *scen file in the community scenario pack are named slightly differently:
WW III - Log Bridge, 1989.ini
Log Bridge, 1989.scen
And the individual download from the released scenario thread contains just the *.scen file.
What gives?

RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Played this scenario and it was great. USS Wisconsin finished them all. I thought they would run away from her though at the end after depleting their offensive missiles

Just finished playing Log Bridge, 1989, and I've posted an AAR here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3853759&mpage=1&key=
Some notes:
The "NATO Ships Detected" trigger seems to actually be set up to fire when NATO detects a Russian ship, not vice versa. (Unless this is a deliberate choice to give the Russians info they don't actually have?)
After the Udaloy took its hit the formation slowed down to ~ 2 knots, and never speeded up again, even after the damaged ship sank. While this made it harder for my subs to sneak up undetected, because the enemy was at optimum sonar conditions, it also gave me a lot more time to handle the situation and get into ideal position. I'm not sure if this speed change was intentional or not.

RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Just finished the scenario, what a slaughterhouse!!
I scored some early hits with my sub and ship launched anti-ship missiles, thinning the WP ASW screen enough for me to attempt to penetrate it but the GB sub was detected and sunk by air when it ran into a WP SSN. The US SSN got close enough to put a torp into an escort before getting sunk in return.
Then lots of nail biting when the long range WP SSM swarms came in and I lost three escorts to them while depleting virtually all my SAM’s. My harpoons where mostly ineffective, sinking another escort and damaging another. It then came down to guns and the 16” on my BB sunk the leftover WP fleet.
Great and well balanced scenario, kudos!!!

RE: Log Bridge, 1989
Ok, I managed to play this scenario as the US without losing a single ship. The secret is to change your ship formation in such a way that you have your SAM shooters very closely together and more or less in line abreast, facing the WP fleet. If you manage your SAM launches very closely and manually concentrate all CIWS fire at any leakers (the AI is very bad at handling fast sea skimmers) while firing your anti ship missiles (including tomahawks) more or less in one massive salvo, you wont loose a single ship and will inflict massive losses on the WP fleet in return. After all AS missiles have been expended, put you BB up front of your formation and have it sink the leftovers.
