Battleground Italy - vs Axis AI - Take 2

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi All,

Hoping to learn from my last run through.

Air missions for the 1st Turn focussed on enemy AF's and Ports (and Naval Interdiction off Gela).

End of Turn 1.

Moved a FS into each of my airbases and set Priority to 4 and TOE to 50 to see what happens.

V US Army units are already moving to Tunisian ports and some are starting to prep for Italian mainland invasions. Time to get things right in this scenario!

Pre Turn 2 ground movements.

Interestingly the Axis decided to Banzai the 1st FJ Div. A sad end to a skilled combat unit.

How did he have the MP to get there? I can't make it add up, can anyone spell it out for me?

He could have dropped them, right. Although why is a good question.

Turn 3 after ground movements. 1st FJ performed miracles and despite losing 3,500 men over the week resisted surrender (the light mud helped them!)

I thought an Amphib TF was supposed to repair a damaged port if they were next to it after the turn? Didn't happen with Catania.

Not all in vain though as Patton falls to a Ju-88 landing on him!

A disturbing trend for me on Patton. My last five games that started in 43 have ended with Patton dying in the first few turns. I am beginning to suspect something might be off on him - I have lost him in the 43 Campaign (twice!), in Husky, in Battleground Italy, and in Torch (not yet released). I am getting paranoid that my computer's Axis AI has been sending hit squads after him!

I have always replaced him with Bradley so maybe that has something to do with it!

Same pattern... Seems like he's programmed to die a little too easily
