Scenario additions and updates

Post by Big B »

Just putting out the word that major revisions have been done on B-Mod:AE, as well as a new Grand Campaign Scenario.

Finished work adapting Nikademus's May 1st 1942 start GC below:

This fine scenario has been adapted to the B-Mod system and has also been fitted to Andrew Brown's Extended Map (as ALL B-Mod Scenarios are).

All current B-Mod scenarios and artwork may be found here at Big B's Shipyard.

Note: All scenarios are dedicated to historically improving Naval and Air Combat, with OOB changes kept to a minimum.

Thank you General Patton, I have never been really sure if anyone ever really played them at all. [;)][:D]

EDIT And to give credit where it's due -
I would like to express my thanks to the following Forum members who have long helped me in this endeavor (if you don't like the scenarios - I take full blame, if you do like them, these people deserve credit);

Kadrin: For years of research and testing.
Symon/JWE: For years of consultation and discussion.
TOMLABEL: For his massive help with the ship artwork.
Cathartes: For his sole work on aircraft artwork.

Thank you ALL

Thanks for your work Brian. [&o]

Now, when I retire, I can 'steal' the May 42 stuff and incorporate that into RA and BTS mod with it.

I sooooooooo want to do a April 1, 1942 scenario of RA and BTS! It is probably the next project to tackle...

Don't sell your self short Brian. Your help has been instrumental in developing a whole new group of Modders. I will always be thankful for it.

+10, ok, OT now ..

Ohhh shiny things. Garlic and ginger roasted leg of lamb, with cilantro sprigs; Twice baked potatoes (Pioneer Woman recipe) with bacon and shaved green onions; perfect pole beans (Southern Living recipe) with balsamic vinegar, bacon, and shaved green onions (anyone seeing a theme, here). Sprigs of neat stuff out of the garden. Woof !!

It's Easter and the Orthodox Catholics greet one another with "Xristos Vosgrese" (Christ is risen); answered by "Voisteno Vosgrese" (Indeed he is risen). We all make a ton of seriously good food and share it with our brothers and sisters according to the Word. One must always make more than one can eat, so that 'the beggar at the door' may be fed the same.

In this Holy season, God bless and keep all of you, and grant you peace.

RE: Scenario addition Scen 193 End of the Beginning

Post by Big B »

Some update notes on scenario 193 'End of the Beginning', and how it differs from the original scenario it was adapted from:

This is from the current ver.8 scenario notes:
BIG B'S NOTES:

1) Oil Production
[Historical Background]
[ Japan did attempt to exploit the DEI's natural resources (oil, rubber, tin, etc.). Oil of course was the key resource. The Japanese managed to seize only about 4 million barrels of oil as many of the storage tanks were destroyed. Even worse for the Japanese, actually producing oil proved to be a much more difficult undertaking than seizing the oil fields. This is because the Dutch had anticipated the invasion and did a very thorough job on putting the fields out of operation, especially the all important refineries. The Oil Wells and Refineries in Balikpapan and Tarakan were thoroughly Destroyed by the Dutch - for which Dutch POW's paid the ultimate price with their lives.
The Japanese war planners had anticipated quickly bringing the oil fields and refineries back on line. It proved to be a much more difficult undertaking than anticipated.
The whole task was further set back when a transport ship carting refinery equipment and even more important skilled refinery personnel was sunk. This meant that the refineries were off line all of 1942. For the Japanese this proved a disaster. The Japanese finally managed to get production up to 50 million barrels, 76 percent of its 1940 output rate (1943). The problem for the Japanese was that producing oil in the DEI did them little good. They needed to transport it back to the Home Islands. And this proved a serious problem. By the time the refineries were operational, the American submarine campaign had begun to bite. Thus only limited quantities of oil actually reached Japan. And after the Americans seized the Philippines (October 1944-January 1945), Japan was entirely cut off. So Japan failed to achieve its primary war aim, obtaining access to oil. ]

IN GAME - Balikpapan & Tarakan's Oil Production and Refinery Facilities start the scenario destroyed (historical). However, so as not to cost the Japanese player 780,000 supply points to repair (wrecking the Japanese economy), Balikpapan & Tarakan have each been given Japanese automatic supply 500 supply daily to make the repairs.
These two locations if left to repair, will be back in operation at the historical time frame of one or two years - free of charge.

2) Task Forces -
Extensive computer vs computer AI testing revealed some odd tendencies - mainly sending USN CV's to Addu (location 736) off India on turn 2.
So - Japanese and Allied Task forces for CV TF's and Main Body Combined Fleet have been accurately recreated - as they existed in May-June 1942. This will keep the computer AI from doing Odd things that were observed at the beginning of the game. The AI will now behave and prosecute the rest of the war as it normally does.

3) This scenario has been properly refitted to Andrew Brown's Extended Map.

These changes have made the scenario as viable as any other Witp:AE Scenario for human vs Computer for either side.

Please Enjoy

B

Hi BigB,

Quick Question for you. I was trying out your Scenario 198 yesterday, which is the Dec 8th version.
For Pearl, it looks like most of the aircraft at PH are actually in good shape, including several PBY's that are at full strength (12 in each).

I'm not an expert at the PH attack, so i'm not sure if this is ok. Is this a normal complement for a Dec 8th scenario, or are there still adjustments to be made to the A/C starting numbers for this scenario?

Thanks.

Hi Falken,
I got those numbers copied from the stock Dec 8th scenario (#6 I believe), I merely copied the info over - so what you see is what stock gives....

Thanks,

You were correct, and I have updated that to be back in sync with stock scenario 6.

RE: Scenario additions and updates

Scenarios updated to ver.8.611
This should be the LAST scenario update.
Major changes for ver.8.611:

Japanese Fighter Squadrons, Army and Navy: ALL Japanese Fighter Squadrons have had their experience ratings raised back up to Original WitP Standards (all were lowered in stock WitP:AE). This change made air combat work better.

D3A1/D3A2 Val Dive Bomber: The D3A1/D3A2 Val will now once again use the 250kg SAP Bomb for Naval Strike missions (as it was in Original WitP). All other missions will use the stock 250kg GP Bomb.

KI-51 Sonia: The versatile KI-51 Sonya was built as an Assault Aircraft, it was constructed and equipped to be used as a Dive Bomber. The Sonia now has the Dive Bomber/Attack Bomber/Light Bomber roles, with weapons Loadout adjusted to carry the 100kg bomb and 60kg bombs.

Permanently Restricted units: ALL Japanese and Western Allied maneuver units and aircraft squadrons that are in permanently restricted commands – can now pay political points to change command to a non-restricted command for redeployment. This does NOT include Fortresses nor Major Base Forces (like Los Angeles or Tokyo for example), nor does this apply to Soviet, Chinese, Thai, Manchukuo, or Mongolian Forces – they remain in permanently restricted commands.
(The reason for this change is that – by definition – when you take command... the war will not follow the historical course, and all the circumstances under which historical decisions were made – will no longer be valid in your game. Therefore, both sides need the flexibility to to command as each player see's fit.)

CVL Hermes:
The Hermes now has available the refit she was scheduled to receive in 1939, but was never carried out due to pressing wartime need for her services. The refit is available after March 1942 (beyond the time of her sinking).

Clemson, Wickes, & Sampson Class Destroyers: These elderly 4-Stack Destroyers still used the 21' 21” Mark 8 Torpedo, instead of the longer, more powerful, Mark 15 21” Torpedo. Therefore the old 4-Stacker's have been switched to use the Mark 8 torpedo.
Also, 5 Clemson Class Destroyers started the war using 5”x51 gun main armament instead of 4”x50's like their classmates. These 5 have been so modified to their original configuration – as well as an option to re-arm the other Clemson's with this weapon if the player chooses.
