Barbarossa & Netplay?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

Barbarossa & Netplay?

Post by juntoalmar »

Hi,
Not that I want to burn the flame with this post about Netplay.

I have had a couple of "teaching sessions" on MWiF with a friend on TeamViewer, which were reasonable fluid (in terms or connectivity and interaction between us). We want to start a Barbarossa online and at the moment the options are:
- TeamViewer: we already know how it works, and it's like a Hotseat play, but each of us on his own PC
- NetPlay: I have searched in the forums, and I don't know if it's working yet good enough as to play a Barbarossa scenario.

I tried to start a play, but it didn't seem to work the online forum where to find oponent, send messages, and so.

Have you guys accomplished a NetPlay game on Barbarossa without problems?

Thanks in advance!

You have two separate issues.

I have done a lot of Playtesting with NetPlay Barbarossa and can tell you it is not quite ready for "prime time". There are lots of naval bugs (which are not really all that much of a problem in Barbarossa but could be annoying if you try to do naval ops). More importantly, there are some air-to-air combat bugs. Steve is working on all the NetPlay bugs we've found, but my advice is to hold off on the NetPlay version.

The second, separate thing is the NetPlay forum. You must have username/password problems there, because in all the NetPlay testing we've done (and there's been lots) we have had zero problems connecting up and playing.

Teamviewer should work fine for you for now as long as you're both comfortable with both of you having access to all that's on the PC that's hosting the game.

Hi Paul,

Fantastic, that's exactly what I needed to know. We are very good friends, so we fully trust each other and there is no issue on sharing access with TeamViewer. Still, I must say that if I ever play with TeamViewer and someone who I don't know so well, I would create a new user in my computer so he/she would not be able to do any damage to my computer or peep at my photos.

I will look onto the tech forums regarding NetPlay and see if I can help to fix any issue.

Thanks!

The Teamviewer game that I'm in is hosted on a virtual cloud-based server, so nobody involved need be concerned about their own PC security. That is another option.

On my third game of Barbarossa with Teamviewer and have not had a game stopping problem yet! Love Teamviewer! There are still some supply bugs but not game stopping ones. I would like to see them get these resolved before going on to Netplay just because we do have a way to play multiplayer right now without Netplay.

Can you post those supply bugs in the Tech forum (with gamesaves, if possible). I know of only one bug which involves Barbarossa (that's the fact that the Baltic States capital isn't a supply source for the USSR at start of Barbarossa). If you've got more, we would like to investigate these.

Hi,

Does the server let more than one person connect at a time via teamviewer ?

Sounds like a good temp. solution, would you mind sharing the hosting company ?

Thanks

Sorry about that Centuur. I will next time it happens and will take a screen shot. Thought it was already reported.

Yes it does. There is no hosting company. Your computer is the host. Some people are a little skittish about allowing someone else to have access to their computer.

That question referred to my post (#4). Yes - we've had 5 of us on at one time. That function is within Teamviewer.

Amazon is the one we use. There are many choices. Check the link and scroll to the bottom.
