No night bombing....

Allies sweep Moulmein with lots and lots of fighters...no Japanese there. Then the troops get bombed. Then the Allied horde comes crashing over the river, at the forts, thru the heavy artillery

And are repulsed!! Can't even lower the forts.[:)] Too bad I chickened out and pulled out 3 heavy artillery and 2 divisions to guard the road to the southeast. Still, the Allied troops are bloodied and Japanese troops are pretty fresh. Allies had 3000 AV going in...lost 200 tanks. Moulmein should be able to hold for another week -- depending what the Allies do with the 5 divisions in the jungle to the east.

Over at Trinkat a squadron of Tonies go in at 35K, and have a tough time with the Wildcats and Martlets there...losing 14. But then the George goes in at 25K, and shreds, and shreds, and shreds some more. Close to 60 Martlets, Wilcats (2 flavors) are downed. Wohoo! 1 George lost.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, been bouncing between two computers again...will try and get some shortly.

Pretty quiet everywhere else...moving troops back to the Mindanao/Luzon. Pulling out of Trinkat and the 4th ID is going to Alor Star and then to Bangkok and north.

That is a cause for celebration, especially at this time of the war. That is an interesting result given your dictation on the sequence.

Did it on purpose that way. The Tonies flew from Trinkat, and were designed to degrade whatever high altitude fighters where there, while the Georges flew lower from Sabang looking to cleanup.

When I was leaving the George at high altitudes, the fighters didn't engage much, so I thought to drop them down closer where the majority of the fighters were. It worked.[:)]

Over the last two days the Allies have lost over 100 fighters -- to about 54 Japanese losses, which feels really good. Two bad I haven't figured out how to lessen the Thunderbolt's impact. Got one fighter pilot to 13 kills...flying a A6M5c and another became a double Ace in the Tojo IIc yesterday.

Moulmein

Can't hold here for long, most of the heavy Artillery at Moulmein is combat moving out, but the river crossing might have bought more more than a week I hope...really depends what he does with all those 5 relatively fresh divisions to the east.

I might cancel the artillery movement and restart it...not sure. 900 Japanese AV in the hex to the east of Moulmein.

Marching thru the Jungles to Raheng from Chiang Mai. Some units will stick around to hold Chiang Mai...

The Uttaradit block one hex north looks good with 2 Divisons and some Artillery. 1st Tank Div is there, but is moving back out to block at Raheng. Need those troops out of the jungle and on roads but they had to go there in case the Allied assault down the road from Tuang Gyi went faster.

I can spawn 3 MTBs, I might do it here at Moulmein and send them into Rangoon to get the supply convoy there. 10 percent moonlight.

Bonins:

Not great, but actually better than the Marianas were pretty much. Need to start pulling off the engineers and get more artillery.

Home Island Chain....

A lot of improvement here...especially at Naha and Daito, and lots of fort building going on.

My goodness, just count the islands....and several are plains with size 4AF.[X(]

My goal in the short run is to get supply and engineers to all of them...and then rank them on AF size, terrain, port potential and staff them accordingly.

What a strategic headache...I don't have the troops! Nowhere close.

Hokkaido

To me this is the most dangerous area...I think it is entirely reasonable to land 3-5 divisions here and then life in Japan would be tough.

Even the islands are really good if somewhat lacking in port size. Still, they aren't winter zone until you get half out to the Kuriles.

Looking at December the Myojo will fill up my divebombing squadrons and make a strong presence Luzon...hopefully.

Jan 1, 44 the Nick D night fighter and Irving Sa come on stream...so I will at least have a full contingent of night fighters to meet the B29s come April 44. I should have the Frances and Peggy starting production around April too.

I plan on using Petes and KAI Dinahs on a 10 percent setting too, if night bombing is a go by the Allies, at least at the big five industrial targets and perhaps at some of the plane r&d areas.

I am in so much trouble...[X(]

From what I remember the Myojo is pretty fragile and it's definitely pretty slow. It was originally a modified Val made of wood to save on precious aluminum! [:)][X(]

So it packs punch. The question is whether the punch will ever arrive at target. For me a Judy of any kind, and especially a Grace, is a better option.

I am going to give them a try, and they are made of lots of wood.[:)]

I made the plane based on early comments to the AAR, I think from Spidery, but also backed up by you that there were several training squadrons that can upgrade to the Myojo but not Judies for kamikaze work.

Of course I have to survive till I get the training squadrons first.[:)]

However, I shut down my Judy factories until the D4Y4 comes along in a month or so, so the Myojo will probably get pressed into duty as a landbased bomber.

I was wondering what a squadron bombing at Chungking would do? Perhaps if used as a divebomber it would really eat up the supplies inherent in the Chinese corps there? Might be ugly those as they are fragile.

In examining the map, it seems fairly certain that the some of the 11 units on the Tuang Gyi road, south of Chiang Mai are moving north into Chiang Mai shocking across the river -- or they are moving west into the JR terrain to cut off the IJA forces retreat path.... either way, I will take it as it is more delay.

CD guns only fire at ships passing by when they are placed in straits

More likely, there is a chance they fire. Also, who is to know it might be a wide strait, making it even more likely. Aren't only narrow straits listed in the manual.

yeah and there is no chance they fire at passing ships when it's not a strait listed in the manual. [;)] Don't think the game differs between narrow or wide strait.

Disagree![:)] My ships have been fired at in Merak and it is a wide straight. Wargamer lost carriers at Fusan and it is a wide strait. I have heard of CD guns firing at Umboi too. Lots of wide straits in the PI...

I think, as always, a lot depends upon the detection levels.

Funny. Looking at their durability the Myojo comes in at 30! The Tsurugi is much less durable at what, 22?

So the Myojo is actually more durable than the Judy. Go figure.

It's a hell of a lot faster than the bi-planes that come in those training groups and some other late arrivals at 292, so it might be better than i'd been thinking. I guess I dismissed it in relation to the speed of the Judy/Grace, but by the time I had the late game groups forgot that it was actually much better than what arrived in them and might be the best available in some upgrade paths.

DBs should suffer at Chungking because of the Chinese small AA guns, of which they have a lot. Although they have very few medium and heavy AA guns, they have a lot of 50 cal MG devices that will hit the DBs below 4k. I'd stay at 6k or above, but stye might do okay from there.

Rangoon Harbor. Peaceful, quiet no more for the sleek 21 knot MTBs are prowling and hunting. Intel is good, and docked unloading are juicy merchantmen.

They dart in, surprise is total. The torpedoes streak out...none miss. Not a one.

In a minute it is over, the MTBs darting for Moulmein. Mission accomplished.

No night bombing.

Allies bombard at Moulmein; Allies shock attack with one division into Chiang Mai, get a 1-4 but there isn't enough morale or firepower and supplies to inflict a lot of damage. Forts hold steady.

A fair day.
