I am really frustrated at the moment - if anyone can give some advice I would appreciate it.
1. What the heck is going on with Palembang?
I marched an infantry unit and 3 bdes of Art up the road from Oosthaven and now can't cross the hexside into Palembang from the Praboemoelih (the base to the South)?
2. There is a rule to pay PPs to move units. Which seems to basically translate into a limitation on Japanese movement more than the Allies.
Example: Palembang
18th British Division (III Indian Corps)
Cavite USN Base Force (Asiatic Fleet)
224 Group RAF (???)
I feel all of these units should have been moved to the ABDEC command structure if they are being used in this area.
Example: Pegu (Burma)
6th Australian Division (I Australian Corps)
I think any Aussie units leaving Australia or the Southeastern theater (Port Moresby/New Caladonia) should be paying point.
I suspect none of the above units were bought out with PPs to move to these new theatre of operations.
Is that kosher or do I have a legit complaint?

Usually the HR is for restricted units...some of those troops are unrestricted and start on either ships at sea bound for Singers (and that command structure) or are unrestricted (RAF? can't remember, but it wouldn't cost too much to free up). There are generally only a very few units that can be bought out of the PI, and Cavite is one of them -- a lot of people like it for the radar sets it starts with (or upgrades to rather quickly). If memory serves a tank unit, marine unit, some planes (some of which get withdrawn in early 1942 anyway).
There is five chinese corps that can be bought out to escape China and make their way to India. The rest are stuck which is a big help for Japan.
The 18th sometimes ends up at Cocos, or Port Blair, or Ceylon or Akyab, and if used aggressively at Palembang. You are facing somewhat of a fortress Palembang situation which takes art and planes and patience to defeat. No easy answer there.
Does he still have troops in Prab? If not, did you recently fight a battle and have the crossed sword icon?
The Allies get a lot of Aussie reinforcements that appear in Aden. As they appear outside of Australia and are not restricted, it doesn't make sense to force them to go to Australia, although the Allied player might want to send some of them there anyway.
I guess he has turned Palembang into another fortress like Singapore. But you should be able to bomb the **** out of those troops.

Nothing in Prab but Japanese Infantry and Artillery. I just got there and the base is still with the Dutch flag. I have set the units to do a DA to take the empty base.

Hit the "F6" key to remove hexsides. Then hit the "W" key to bring up hexside control. What are the colors around Palembang?? If need be, post a screen shot of this to understand why you cannot move troops. If there is a thick red line, then Japan has total control of that hexside and is the only one that can move between those two hexes. You need a thin green line to be able to move through hexside (may have a thin red in other hex).

I think you have to DA the base before you can move through it to Palembang. Once that is done, the road is clear.
Thanks. It is all a new day to me (in a wtf am I doing kind of way)...
I had not run into this problem before.
I then checked to see if I could move the Original Invasion Force from Palembang to (any square) and all movement is blocked at this point
I notices a rinky-dink xAK in port in Palembang and wondered if for some reason this was preventing a crossing.
Thanks to all for the answers. I got the next turn off with a DA to clear the base.
I am hoping that supplies will flow from Oosthaven upward to my siege forces after I clear the road as well.

To move across a hex side, you must own that hex side of the hex you are in. Your unit(s) in Palembang own no hex sides at all - so of course they can't move! Your unit in the other base only owns the hex side that faces to the SW (map SW), so that is the only way it can move. After you capture the base, because there are no enemy units there, you will own all the hex sides in that hex and be able to move in any direction (that terrain allows).

Burma Problems
I had 2 Divisions plus assembled and moving into the Pegu river line to cross. The Allies rushed troops to man defensive positions. There was probably a narrow window where I could have forced the crossing, but my lack of experience in cordination and movement in various terrains has left me with a couple of roughly handled RTA units and no crossing.
About 90 allied fighters showed up protecting Rangoon as transports unloaded. I tried to sweep the fighters away with Zero and Oscar 1c units. The Zeros got beat up pretty badly. The Oscars held their own. I can not bomb Rangoon to stop the unloading.
The river crossing has been canceled for now.
I am pulling one division back to Chaing Mai and taking the road North toward Taung Gui/Lashio to pull him further North and when other forces (from where???) arrive I will try the river assault again.
NOTE TO SELF: and any other noobs tracking my mistakes.
Get some freaking subs up to Rangoon early to intercept reinforcements.[:@]

Gathering units to recombine into Divisions at Clark Field. I haven't begun the march to Bataan until I get at least two assemblied. Lots of artillery but not enough is also there. I am bombing Bataan airfield and port each turn with 4 sentai of bombers. I am racking up a couple of points (airfield/runway/port) damage each turn.
I have also set up a small screening blockade in the 3 sea hexes around Bataan in case some single ships try to sneak thru. This is a recurring irritant to me.

I have been curious why when troops are marching thru hexes, the hexsides change as you arrive there. In a hex with an unoccupied base, how long do you have to sit in the hex before it just flips or do you have to DA each base (occupied or not) to take ownership?
Also in a calculation of force type exercise, a full Inf division and 3 bde of Art should outweigh an unoccupied base/city structure for hex ownership -- I guess I need to reassess how the game mechanics of this works.
So much to learn and my toes are sore from banging into restrictions in the dark.
