The troops of the 3rd Reich finally eliminate the last of the French resistance lurking in the Maginot Line. The Fuhrer is at this very moment en route to Paris to begin the victory celebrations. Fierce naval battles between U-boats and the Royal Navy continue to erupt in the Atlantic north of Belgium. The U-boats definitely have the upper hand. On the other hand the Luftwaffe sends fighter sweeps over southern England and get their arses handed to them on a plate. Goering has forbidden any more aerial incursions into enemy territory that include inexperienced pilots and aircrew.

The Italians consolidate......[:)]

The Great Patriotic War (Excerpts from the journal of J. Stalin)
The Soviet Union is at peace with the world. We are however building up our defenses as we have the responsibility of holding the future of the worlds workers in our hands. As we look about us we see the European Axis, newly strengthened by the conquest of France. We see the mighty British Empire, imperial and capitalist. And, we see to our east the United States, China, and Japan, doing an intricate dance to decide the fate of much of Asia.

We have not had much communication with these powers, but we imagine Great Britain and the displaced French will be interested in revenge, and reacquisition of the lost lands. The Axis will fight to keep what they have gained. The USA and China will certainly try to force Japan to the peace table, and Japan has its honor to consider.

Time will tell which, if any, of these nations is a threat to the worker's haven.

The Great Patriotic War (Excerpts from the journal of J. Stalin)
The Soviet Union remains at peace with all nations.

Germany has built up a significant force facing Copenhagen. We remember they were very unhappy that we took the
Danish port, and the straits. Copenhagen means more to us than just as a city, for it allows us to get out of the
Baltic. The Germans can do this with the Kiel Canal, but we need Copenhagen to do so.

Germany is just responding to the even more significant force the USSR has apparently built up in Copenhagen (which we spotted almost by accident), while we were busily occupied with other things. These forces are of course conveniently obscured in the aerial recon photo.....[;)]).

We are just working on the simple premise that its better to be safe than sorry....lol

Does anyone know where the turn is in this game?

The folder has been without a game for about three days.

Was wondering that myself. The last file to be put into the old files folder appears to have been the French turn by Thomas on April 30th.

Which country comes after France?

As the Japanese player, I always copy from dropbox and then paste to my saved game folder. After my turn I do the same back to dropbox. My last turn and the Soviet turn following mine are both in the saved game folder (turn 27).

Both your file and the Soviet one have AM time signatures on them, Thomas' French file has PM on it so it was definitely the last one played on the 30th.

I found a USA turn for Game 19 in the old files, which comes after the GB turn, so Twotribes must have done his turns. It looks like it got in the old files rather than the primary active folder. Lets not worry about how it got there, and just continue play.

So Ironduke seems to be up, unless he has seen this turn already. He will do the USA and China, then Falco will get a Turn 28 Germany.

I have replayed the turn USA/China that had been placed in the dropbox, this may be the third time I have played this turn ? if it appears again I may lose the will to live. Also we have the minor problem of a DOW on Spain by one Axis power causing a war then immediately accepting peace, circumventing the use of influence to move minor powers to your camp, there is a house rule that some newer players may not be aware of. You cannot use a DOW to activate a minor power causing a phoney war between the powers that you control, or two allies. As I said it was a exploit that we are aware of but new players will not be aware of unfortunately it is not a written rule.

I was not going to mention this problem but as we seem stuck in Deja Vu land perhaps we can point it out so that it does not happen again.

Yes, this is the second time I have played this Axis turn. Never mind, nothing really radical happened the 2nd time around anyway.

Well, as I'm the culprit for starting the phoney war, Im sorry. Spain looked like easy real estate to grab so I went for it. I was unaware
of any house rule about this. But I am now....lol Actually the accepting peace bit was purely an accidental click on my part, believe it or not.

First, let me say that I am sure the house rule that was known in Game Six has become obscure by Game 18.

I suspect we all noticed the situation in Spain, and perhaps we can ask Ernie to work up a piece of code to prevent it. Perhaps putting "No phony wars", or "phoney" on the DoW choice. In the briefing Ernie could mention, and explain it.

Diplomacy is one of the strongest aspects of GD1938. Coding diplomacy in a game like this is difficult. For the players it is great fun, but it is delicate and can be abused. For example it is a "phony" war if the USSR declares war on the USA in order to allow her to escape isolationism, but it is not "phony" if Uncle Joe really wants to go tooth and claw with Uncle Sam.

I would love to have a way to go from alliance to peace, rather than from alliance to war. I think ending an alliance without declaring war should be possible. Perhaps Ernie can open a topic to allow us to discuss issues around diplomacy?

The turn I played over is still Turn 27, 8 Jan 1940. I have renamed the Soviet file in "Old Turns", and have the new turn for the French as Turn 27.

I think we need to make sure we leave the original in the Dropbox, and copy it to our working area, for me this is "Savedgames" on my C: drive. When we finish our turn we copy the next players turn to the Dropbox after saving it with a proper player and turn in the file name. This has the advantage that we see the turn being worked on, or awaiting being played, until the next one is ready. Twotribes is right, an empty folder, with no game turn in it leads to possible trouble.

I think either you or Ironduke taught me this method of copy/paste in my first game of GD38. I now do it this way always, and am in agreement that it's the best way to go.
