Coda???

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

Coda???

Post by WHATEVERDUDELEMMEINALREADY »

So I finish the campaign and just get kicked out of the game...geez, what a tremendous step backwards!!

Part of the appeal, the overall experience, of the original CC games were how the end felt like a tribute, even if you lost...here, even when you win you just get dumped back to the main menu!!

I think even in the bad ol' DOS days they had a little "you win congrats!!!" message that popped up. Here, you gotta look in the "Campaign Results" screen -- if you remember to, since it always says the same thing except during the very last battle...but how would you know it's the last battle???

Man, I've never been so disappointed...really hope y'all consider something a little more appropriate for your upcoming 3-D version!!

Historically there used to be videos that would play when the campaign ended, giving you your 'tribute.' Some of the new releases have not included 'end game' videos and this does make for a bit of an abrupt ending to a campaign game.

It is definitely something that could be better. Thanks for your feedback.

The latest games typically display a "End of Game" once the game has ended. It would be a little more appropriate to have an ending situation report screen describing the outcome of the campaign or battle.
The situation report could be in the format of a "military" message, with date and time hostilities ended, how they ended, and an overall assessment of the battle or campaign, based on results.
Example:
////01JUL1944-1000////
CLASSIFIED
FROM: GERMAN HQ ( or American HQ)
TO: 12 PANZER CMD (include other commands that participated)
SUBJECT: OPERATION ODON RESULTS
//
German Panzer forces have stopped the Allied forces from reaching Caen.
Your leadership is highly commendable.
Stand down all offensive operations.
////END////

It would be nice to have videos or what Grognard suggested. The CC2 videos were great. You got an intro when you began the campaign, an update at the end of every in-game day, and then a victory/loss video at the end of the campaign. Having something like this in TBF would be good.

Alternatively, you could go down the Panzer Corps route and show a wall of text/orders and get some actor in to read the text in a poor German accent [:'(]

Maybe he's just trying to sound someone with a poor German accent. [:'(]
BTW Panzer Corps Wehrmacht voices are from Bodo Henkel.

[:D] Confession time! I usually skip the briefing until I've seen the map (that's because I'm doing Let's Plays rather than just playing the game normally) so I haven't given Henkel much of a chance to talk. Will listen from now on [;)]

Good recovery TIK! You could win the Tour de France back-peddaling that hard! [:D]

ps - Our German friend Bodo speaks too slowly, I've usually read the briefing and clicked through to the battle before he's recited the first sentence.
