These are all 47mm now. Doesn't look like they should kill many medium tanks, but could damage them and get penetration on the light tanks.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] Got the Nautilus which had been sitting at Kaveing. Four old DDs came down from Truk and nailed it off the bat. [:)]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CBI: [/font] My tanks have made it, the divisions should arrive in 60, 48 near Taung Gyi tomorrow. That will make it 3k+ AV in x3 and on a decent supply path. If he can't dislodge us with the next attack and these troops dig, this block will never be moved. I've got two more divisions at Taung Gyi just starting to walk to the hex. It looks like he's backing some units out to try a flanking move into the jungle offroad. I'll move at least one of these divisions through the hex and onward to dig on the yellow road in front of the river. I could send another to dig in the hex on the other side of the river to, but not sure it's necessary yet. I'll have a look at what's coming first.
Moving the bombing around. Hit Ramree again and Lashio. Trying to make sure I keep damage on the critical bases close to the front and where supply may flow and which could be used for shorter range fighters. I just noticed something interesting in terms of supply movement. Bhamo is empty. Not for long.
This is his main supply path and if I cut that it could mean some serious disruption to the movement routines here.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SO PAC: [/font]The Allies are really reaching out with their naval strikes hitting at max range on North New Guinea and sinking one xAK while damaging another. I'll aim to test this tomorrow as 4 x DD move to Rabaul. If they come again it won't be pretty this time with 250 fighters now in that base in a layered CAP.
The Allies also swept Rabaul with three Corsair groups and 120+ P-38s. The CAP got 1:1 vs the Corsairs which was amazing, then beat off the combined sweep of all of the Lightning groups arriving simultaneously. Not many P-38s lost, but they weren't too effective either since these big combined group sweeps seem to shorten the combat. Our CAP is getting tougher, even though there are still a lot of Oscars and zeros here. The Jack group will be beefed up as more fragments join in the fight after being spread out repairing, and the Nicks are also moving here. He doesn't have enough bombers in area that I've seen to be able to close it yet in one big strike.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font] Interesting news out here North of Wake. The subs in area are getting high DL and one was attacked by an Avenger out of range of LBA. Hmmmmm. The KB is ready.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font]Jakes based on Marcus located a large Allied force and attacked it on the 4th. They met 223 Hellcats on CAP! [X(]
So they are coming. The KB is in position at Guam and will attempt to get in position 8 hexes from Marcus near Pagan to also keep LBA somewhat in play. Al but the CVE TF can make this 14 hex run and should be in good position should the Allies go right into Marcus. If they don't we're suddenly caught in the headlights and the surprise factor lost. I think it's worth the risk though and there are still options for unexpected moves the next day.
I've got about 5-6 D4Y3 units upgraded and operational now, but some of the KB is still D4Y1, so I can't yet make a full 8 hex strike. It would be nice to hit the invasion fleet with CV kept behind out of range. I'm sure he's brought more this time and Marcus may go down. It'll be tough to hold and use though except as a searching base considering the position out here and lack of any supporting bases nearby.
This is a huge moment in game. I'm wondering whether a fight here is the right plan, but each month the Allies get stronger, so I want to use the KB when it has a chance to do something.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] I've brought forth 12 midget subs (and two MTB) at Marcus. Lets se if they get lucky. Either way they could help with increasing DL and identification of ships as well as delaying them to target.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CBI: [/font] More sweeps at Taung Gyi and the Georges do well. Odd only a group of Corsairs and one groupd of Hurri Ic flew here.
We paradropped Bhamo and took the base. That will throw a wrench in supply routes, but he may drop right back. The Allies retook Schwebo with Marine paratroops. That base still has a lot of damage on the fields.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SO PAC: [/font]The naval strikes were left on and they hit the Rabaul CAP wall as predicted. A good number of Banshees, B-25D-G versions and P-38Gs downed.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font]Jakes based on Marcus located a large Allied force and attacked it on the 4th. They met 223 Hellcats on CAP! [X(]
So they are coming. The KB is in position at Guam and will attempt to get in position 8 hexes from Marcus near Pagan to also keep LBA somewhat in play. Al but the CVE TF can make this 14 hex run and should be in good position should the Allies go right into Marcus. If they don't we're suddenly caught in the headlights and the surprise factor lost. I think it's worth the risk though and there are still options for unexpected moves the next day.
I've got about 5-6 D4Y3 units upgraded and operational now, but some of the KB is still D4Y1, so I can't yet make a full 8 hex strike. It would be nice to hit the invasion fleet with CV kept behind out of range. I'm sure he's brought more this time and Marcus may go down. It'll be tough to hold and use though except as a searching base considering the position out here and lack of any supporting bases nearby.
This is a huge moment in game. I'm wondering whether a fight here is the right plan, but each month the Allies get stronger, so I want to use the KB when it has a chance to do something.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] I've brought forth 12 midget subs (and two MTB) at Marcus. Lets se if they get lucky. Either way they could help with increasing DL and identification of ships as well as delaying them to target.

We paradropped Bhamo and took the base. That will throw a wrench in supply routes, but he may drop right back. The Allies retook Schwebo with Marine paratroops. That base still has a lot of damage on the fields.

About ten subs are closing from patrols in the Cent Pac area and twenty are moving from the Marianas while another five move up from So Pac.

The two reinforcing divisions also made it into the contested hex in Burma. He must be having more supply issues than I suspected as he hasn't even bombarded since the last DA. Either that or he's luring more of my forces into the area and planning a move behind to cut them off. Probably not though since the US CVs are in the Pacific and most of his free troops are right here.
There are 8k+ AV here and 4k+ AV on the coast near Ramree. I see a few other small concentrations moving forward now near Lashio.
Another two divisions arrive in two days and one at least will move through. I found a brigade to be at least one of the several units that may be attempting to flank here. I'll bomb again soon for more info, but so far it's not much to worry about.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]The SSX Ha-9 found the Allied fleet but couldn't get a hit. A massive amphib TF. Lots of good assault shipping, but what's on there? This is just Marcus Island!
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font] No fireworks today. He held off two hexes and we both have eyes on each other now. The subs will close around Marcus in a massive net tomorrow and LBA will keep up the search but I made the tough decision to move the KB back for now at least. My first choice would have been to move past Marcus to a sport 8 hexes away from the SE, hoping he moved in front of the base to shield his amphibs, but alas the DDs couldn't make another flank sprint and that hex was 13 hexes from the previous position. Too risky to not get everyone there and also be so far out on a limb.
I am guessing he'll go ahead with the landings, but seeing a stong CV force here may give him pause. It woud be great if we both pulled back for the day! [:D]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Strangely my escort fails to protect bombers going for Akyab and the defenders take a toll on the ineffective Helens and escorting fighters. Not sure what happened there excet that sweeps came late.
He sent two small sweeps to Taung Gyi again which got mauled. Also, the Chindits took back Bhamo immediately. [;)]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SO PAC: [/font] Hellcats sweep Rabaul and the CAP gets about 1:1 against them. The massive sweeps of Corsairs and P-38s hit, but again these battles aren't so bloody, and on the day the air numbers are roughly even.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]The SSX Ha-9 found the Allied fleet but couldn't get a hit. A massive amphib TF. Lots of good assault shipping, but what's on there? This is just Marcus Island!
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font] No fireworks today. He held off two hexes and we both have eyes on each other now. The subs will close around Marcus in a massive net tomorrow and LBA will keep up the search but I made the tough decision to move the KB back for now at least. My first choice would have been to move past Marcus to a sport 8 hexes away from the SE, hoping he moved in front of the base to shield his amphibs, but alas the DDs couldn't make another flank sprint and that hex was 13 hexes from the previous position. Too risky to not get everyone there and also be so far out on a limb.
I am guessing he'll go ahead with the landings, but seeing a stong CV force here may give him pause. It woud be great if we both pulled back for the day! [:D]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Strangely my escort fails to protect bombers going for Akyab and the defenders take a toll on the ineffective Helens and escorting fighters. Not sure what happened there excet that sweeps came late.
He sent two small sweeps to Taung Gyi again which got mauled. Also, the Chindits took back Bhamo immediately. [;)]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SO PAC: [/font] Hellcats sweep Rabaul and the CAP gets about 1:1 against them. The massive sweeps of Corsairs and P-38s hit, but again these battles aren't so bloody, and on the day the air numbers are roughly even.

Here is where we ended up on the day. It looks like the Allies brought every surface combat ship in the USN!
We'll move back to near Pagan for tomorrow. If he sticks close to the Marcus invasion ships this could mean we are out of his search range making the next day an interesting one. Having good DL on his forces and moving back into the darkness could give an advantage should we decide to engage the following day. I'm also holding out hope that subs can attrit his forces. Classic IJN thinking, right? [:D]

Sadly, don't get too excited about the midgets.[:-] What is their detection levels? If it is high try to get them to move one hex out into deep water and return, fuel allowing.

If they still have DL tomorrow I could also create new TFs to mimmick redeployment. Obviously these things wouldn't really be hanging around for days in the ocean even if the game allows them that, and the new TF should have no DL.
The surprise would have made this a pretty good day if they'd been in range I think, but now it makes sense not to be hanging out in full view.
Our CAP rules allow defensive fighters to be at any altitude, but sweepers have to be using their second best maneuver band. So Hellcats and P-47s can sweep us with the dive, but the others have to stay at 31k. That helps, although we haven't done badly against Hellcats either.

I sent an Emily group to Marcus to check things out into the deep Cent Pac area.

He's trying to move the parafragment across to take Mandalay and I'll try to hit it with Nicks at 100ft tomorrow. They have expert strafing and about 50 low ground skill, so good enough I'd say.

The different TFs are heading to various bases to replenish. I've had to divert a 70k fuel TF this way from around Formosa to get some top-ups to the KB and company. Ahhhh, the Empire.
Managed to air drop a new Naval Guard unit onto Marcus and if there's time I'll send more out there. I can remove the engineers now as forts are at level 6. I should be able to get AV near to 200. That's almost double what it was when he first landed and was repulsed.

The Frances is now in production at 30 a month and will be included in the Marianas defense zone soon. I'd like an upgrade for the Betty unit in Burma to this plane too to hit the supply runs to Akyab. I've been letting them go so far, but this plane can get in so fast and hit so hard, it will be used once I have it there.

[font="Trebuchet MS"]Not bad again in the air. It was 120+ P-38s sweeping a few days ago and this turn only around 65. The frequency of mission favors Japan at this point, whereas next year that might reverse as even more and better Allied planes arrive. [/font]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]The Jake group at Marcus finds the Allied fleets a few hexes out in the night phase. No subs were vectored in to strike though. Two subs have been hit by ASW air and are heading back to the HI to patch up. Nearly all are in the area now and will close in. The Midgets are ready and will reform into TFs each day to lose DL.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font]Lashio is hit pretty well and the Nicks get to the Schwebo troops knocking out the parafragment there. Tomorrow Akyab is the target and I'll LR CAP the paras that took Bhamo briefly as he's sending milk runs in to hit them.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font] The Allies pop back in to three hexes from Marcus. I'll get subs roving around that spot as he'll surely move tomorrow. I'm guessing he lands now at last. He's hung around and must assume the KB has pulled back.
This would not be a good assumption if I'd played this slightly better. All is well with the ships after refueling but the air groups have been resting and suddenly all of the damaged planes have overwhelmed the onboard maintenance crews. The extra airframes have now pushed some CVs over the flight limits. So now I'm just sitting and waiting for these to be fixed out of range of a dash by the Allies, patrolling one hex off of Guam. No DL though and only one sub contact in the area up near Pagan.
They should be ready after tomorrow's turn which may be good timing anyway. I'd like to move SE and if he does land get ready to hit any ships returning to Cent Pac if his CVs sty forward, or calculating an 8 hex strike possibility from the shadows. To stop that he has to put his CVs to one or another side of Marcus, or risk them in front of the base. I can use those situations if they do happen.
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font]A lone Aussie division sits now in Saidor having taken the base with damaged fields and port, and I've set bombers to hit Lae to hopefully continue any supply issues in area and deny the field as a forward base. His only fields here over level 1 are PM (8), Buna (5) and Milne Bay (6). I'm moving BBs from Babeldaob and another big CA led TF from Soerabaja. Within a week there will be bombardments. An AKE and TKs are heading toward Hollandia now.

I know FOW can come up with some odd TF compositions but your pic from post 650 looks odd.
Have you been made to react to a feint?
He must know you will fight for Marcus. Only other explanation is he had some serious problems getting his TF in place.

I guess it could be, but all of the available USN CVs minus Wasp seem to be here plus all but one CVL. Also a big amphib TF. That's no assurance but there is also a massive assault shipping TF. I think it's possible he's trying to draw me out into a CV duel on terms he chooses. I chose the first day then backed off. If he lands there is no certainty it'll be a one day job. I think he wants a CV fight before that so I can't tee off from 8 hexes.
Also there really are a lot of subs here. He's starting to hit with SBD really hard on em and may just want a few more days of that before a landing try. My guess is that it'll come in within two more days.

Here is a good shot of the Allied TF and our sub positions. Although his air ASW is getting tough, over half the subs here are still without a DL. More are entering the region from the south as two head North to Yokohama for repairs.
Tomorrow he could easily land. We'll see.

They shift by only a few hexes, but wisely he's staying a few back from Marcus just in case the KB rushes in. Maybe he's waiting for his own sub screen to arrive and help shield the landings?

We still get almost 2:1 on the day, so I can't complain, and get some on the ground once the Helens come in and plaster the base, most likely closing it. He still hasn't used LR CAP from Chittagong here.
There is also a small tussle with units from the Chinese bases hitting some A-36 and Beauforts. The A-36 defends really well and gets almost even results.

They shift by only a few hexes, but wisely he's staying a few back from Marcus just in case the KB rushes in. Maybe he's waiting for his own sub screen to arrive and help shield the landings?
