RE: New Scenario

Post by JeffroK »

I've played through to Dec 30 1941

As previously mentioned, lost 6BB at Pearl, Lexington got caught by KB which "jinked" left at Laysan Is, Repulse went down off Mersing but PoW made it back to Singapore. Its just arrived at Colombo and has given its crew 222 days of shore leave.

The land war is moving a bit slower than previously, In Malaya I still hold Temuloh & Kuala Lumpur and I planned to defend forward. Nothing has moved toward Rangoon though Victoria Pt has been taken. Phillipines is holding, just. The IJA attacked Clark Field on about 28/12 but didnt take it. The forces from the south have also attacked Manila without success.

Northern Borneo has been taken and Tarakan attacked though I got the Dutch Fleet of 3CL & 4DD to interdict the second wave, havent seen any air support in this area and I managed to miss the IJB BB which have been seen. New Guinea has been quiet, Manus Is was taken about 25/12 but no other movement.

Makin & Tarawa have fallen and the attack on Wake failed. I just sent in a reinforcement of a Marine Defence Bn escorted by my 2 CV, still only have 3 F4F3 defending Wake and a PBY Patrol Sqn.

Things seem to have slowed down in comparison, no IJN blitzes in the early weeks, more like the IRL step by step advance.

I like the increased number of dot bases, my Burma first line is on the Sittang Bridge line.

My Fairey Battle's arrive in about a week, the IJA will tremble!!!!

Thanks Jeff that was the goal a solid steady advance I know good players pulling an ahisotric strategy may stall the AI in Java Sumatra or Burma - perhaps I am kind of expecting that which is where variants and other scen s will come into play for now I want a solid core/strategic advance without taking the massicve risks (or casualties ) of the previous incarnations

Here is a link to a proper graphic (instead of the Fulmar).

The top's a bit 2 dimensional so I will see if I can polish it a bit if I get a spare moment.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=2481331

(You will need rename the graphics to A_PlaneSide0102.bmp, Aptop0102.bmp & Aptop_alpha0102.bmp and save to the "ART\AlliedPlanes" folder. Use the scenario editor to edit the Battle (aircraft slot 102) and change the bitmap to 102 take advantage of this graphic)

Aircraft bitmap Slot 102 is currently vacant.

Shouldn't break anything except credibility, they will just be flying backwards.... [:'(] (or are they just being attacked from behind??? [&:])

Well anyway you might prefer the attached Fairly Battle plane tops (which are flying forwards.....).

By sheer coincidence I had some suitable files which I reformatted for this purpose. I have included some alternative so mix and match with the MadmanRicks graphics above to your hearts desire. There even should be enough to create some revolving artwork if you wish.

Installation instructions as as per post 44.

Hi Andy,

If you zip up the scenario in the structure as below, the custom artwork will be seamlessly installed at the same time when unzipped into the game folder.

Just a suggestion, [:)]

Through to Jan 20.

Nothing odd happening, japanese expansion is out to Nauru, Rabaul, Madang, Ternate, all of Borneo, hang up at Temuloh but working down the west coast, just approaching Moulmein.

I know I smashed a TF with 4000 plus losses, wonder where it was headed.

Swap 908 & 1676 Bathurst & Katoomba
Lismore 1678 should be closer to where Coffs Harbour 1519 is but could be renamed Casino which is where much of the 7th Div camped in May 42, Coffs Harbour is a further 100 miles south. I have a feel that the 9 hexes, 360 miles shortchanges the 960km actual distance.
Hex 85,153 should be Quilpie
Hex 86,151 should be Yaraka, pop 12.
As mentioned, Forsythe should be Forsayth
Warrnambool 1676, should be at 79,170
Can I suggest Wodonga at 84,169 site of the Bandiana Army base, could also be called Bonegilla
Also Nowra or Jervis Bay at 88,170
Wilcannia at 83,160
Ivanhoe at 83,163 and get rid of Roto (1516), pop. 49

I'd like to squeeze in Puckapunyal at 82,169 but it gets tight. Its 60 odd miles north of Melbourne but I fear this area has also been squeezed. (Could also be called Seymour as most troops were based around that town, about 6 miles from Pucka.)

Agree with Jeff. Bathurst and Katoomba is our fault. They got reversed in our database. Should swap them. Also have Puckapunyal at 82 : 169. Think Andy should add it as well. It's where the OZ armor hangs out. It helps reduce the stack stress on Melbourne. Might help out the AI some.

Jeff, would you please also pm them to me. We will want to update the Babes GC scenarios to be compatible as possible with Andy's new AI scripting. This will help quite a bit.

Andy, you asked in your pm about what other bases could assist the AI? John added a base, Plaine Des Gaiacs, at 114 : 158, in New Caledonia. It was an airbase from very early on, hosting RNZAF Hudsons, if memory serves (AF-1, AF Build - 3, Port 0:0). It offers more flexibility to New Caledonia invasion scenarios on both offense and defense.

edit - It's a Port type, but both Port and Port Build are 0. Nothing there but a beach, but making it a port makes it reachable by an amphibious invasion convoy.
edit2 - Helpfulness to AI. It's a good airbase and will suck LCUs from the Noumea stack for defense. IRL, elements of the 132nd IR rotated through there for training and as a garrison. It's a good 2/3 turns of travel from Noumea, so if it's attacked and taken, Noumea LCUs will have to move to counter. This leaves Noumea vulnerable to a subsequent amphib op. [;)]

Yeah, I'm with Matt. RL is poking sharpies in my butt (fun sharpies, but painful nonetheless). Should be out of my monk's cell in just a bit.

IJN has taken all of big 10 but Soerbaja and Palembang.

No suicidal attacks and all IJN capital ships afloat. Allied AI dormant. Hope this helps.
