Tactics for Brother Against Brother Scenario

Post by zoolander »

Hi

I'm a complete noob at this game, so it may be just I'm inept in general, but is there any way to actually win at the Brother Against Brother scenario? I've tried three or four times and each time I got totally slaughtered. I have let my father in law have a go - He's hot stuff at this kind of thing and he got totally rinsed too.

As far as I can see, when it comes to aircraft, the Venezuelan Air Force have you totally out-ranged and outgunned. Therefore you're only there to provide them with easy target practice and allow them to shoot your entire air force down with ease. If you get airborne you die basically.

Oh and one of my Bomber Groups despite being mission targeted at a terrorist unit (that my special forces had eyes on), and at no other target, insisted on heading towards the Venezuelan airbase on the coast instead. Obviously it didn't have the legs, so reached bingo fuel and attempted to return to base. It never made it. Obviously! Am I missing something here?

I'd be most grateful for any help or pointers as to where I'm going wrong. Asides from being totally rubbish at this obviously!

Ambush! One high flight with radar on as bait, another flying very low somewhere below the enemy ingress route towards the bait, preferably hiding behind terrain to make it even harder to detect them.

Bandits head towards bait, ambush CAP comes up below them with AB to get on their tail. You may have to micromanage to do that, though doing 2 missions could work too, simply give the ambush cap a low loiter altitude to make sure they stay low.

You could also micromanage them into a bracket, that is, split your fight, the guy who gets chased is dragging them and the other is trying to flank, can work well against the AI, but not always.

Going head-on against an opponent with longer range is not the way to do it, as you have noticed already. ;)
Don't play their game, force them to play yours!

Right, i tried that scenario once more after a year or so, and i couldn't use my tactics because my early warning radar didn't pick them up. Why not? Because it was in a valley (maybe something shifted with one of the patches?), due to the hillslope nearby it had no line of sight towards the bandits.

You need to get it as high up as possible ASAP. The next-highest hilltop to the northeast is about 4859 feet high, get it up there, it will be good enough.

Early Warning is vital, no EW, no joy. Once you can see the bandits early enough it will become much easier to conduct ambushes.
Anyways, use those special forces to reconnoiter the rebel camp properly, to make sure there is no surprise MANPAD team that kills your Broncos, which happened to me. [8D]
