That would leave Canton undergarrisoned, but perhaps it's worth it.

A pretty light garrison, anyway... I bring in a small unit from somewhere else to hold it over. You can get back in there before the Chinese do, even if you have to fly in units using the transports in Formosa or something.

I find Hong Kong sometimes falls quickly, other times it's a bit of a grind like you are facing now. In this case, you are only losing the use of 33rd Division for a few more days. Like you, I don't like taking the 104th out of Canton which could be exploited by an aggressive Chinese player. I don't think your war effort will suffer much in the short term. So it takes a few more days...meh. [8D]

Yeah, it doesn't cause much of a delay. Happy to report that Hong Kong fell today. Perfect timing for the next operation (Luzon).

Change of plans for Philippines: 16th Army will invade now with 6 divs. Initial aim is to capture Clark Field and surround the enemy in Manila. After that, 4 divs will be able to redeploy, leaving just 2 at Manila with plenty of artilery.

Looks like its time for an invasion of Akyab quickly and some para drops into central Burma to cut off both lines of retreat. Followed by air lifting in more troops to the para captured bases. Maybe move MKB here while Force Z and others are running around in DEI.

Troops are probably the three brigades that are at sea at game start with the possibility of the 18th UK that is at Cape Town going here vs Java. Trap them now!!

Yeah, this is an opportunity, if indeed Rangoon was reinforced by sea. I'm not 100% sure about that. Reconnaissance of all Burmese bases must be done first. A para unit is standing by and MKB is on its way (currently at Babeldaob).

Or the full Burma Division was reformed here, but that is way too many troops to be just the few components that are not in Rangoon at start.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm reading through your AAR. You are going to put your factories at 30 (or 60), but are these approximates? When I expand it doubles the existing values. Is there a way to get the factory exactly at 30 that I'm unaware of?

Make your factory changes from the Industry screen. You can raise by 1, 10 or double.

My guess is the 17th Indian Div is formed there as well and maybe the two independed brigades already on ships at the start. It will be a welcome surprise if the 18th UK Div is found there.
I'm invading with 1400 AV.

Eastern Operation:
- Christmas island invaded and captured withe the help of KB.
- Baker and Canton are next. CarDiv2 (Soryu, Hiryu) has enough sorties for a carrier battle OR a ground attack. The other carriers have enough for both.
- AKE Kashiro has a hard time rearming so many ships and loading supplies from Johnston island. The support train must be moved to Kwajalein.
- Netties attack PH. These attacks will be conducted daily from now on. Didn't expect to find cruisers still in port.
Morning Air attack on Pearl Harbor , at 180,107
Weather in hex: Overcast
Raid detected at 112 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 39 minutes
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 40
G3M2 Nell x 11
G4M1 Betty x 42

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 7 damaged, 1 destroyed by flak

Allied aircraft losses
PBY-5 Catalina: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied Ships
CL Honolulu, Bomb hits 2
BB Arizona, Bomb hits 3, heavy damage
BB California, Bomb hits 2, heavy damage
CA New Orleans, Bomb hits 1

Airbase hits 11
Runway hits 18
Port hits 1

Malaya/Western DEI:
- A Guards regiment (recently arrived at Bangkok) and a Thai "division" will be sent to Alor Star to deal with the Indian div, which is already surrounded.
- What appears to be Force Z is spotted 4 hexes east of Batavia heading NW. 22nd Air Flottila on alert.
- Batavia swept again. This time we found enemy fighters. It was a slaughter. I don't think Jocke will try that again.
Morning Air attack on Batavia , at 49,98
Weather in hex: Heavy rain
Raid spotted at 16 NM, estimated altitude 24,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 16

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 15
B-339D x 7

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 7 destroyed
B-339D: 3 destroyed

Burma:
Rangoon garrison reported to be 31.000 now, along with 60 fighters and 40 bombers. Babs fly over Magwe and reveal only a meager garrison but 40 fighters. 120 Oscars move to Bangkok and will try to gain air superiority.

Philippines/Eastern DEI:
3rd Air Div lends some 200 medium bombers to the 5th Air Div. Busuanga airfield is now size 2. The air campaign over Luzon can now start in earnest using Takao, Busuanga and Batan island as bases. Enemy strength is estimated at 35 fighters.

Aleutians:
All quiet. Building forts in all bases, except in Umnak which will be our main airbase.

China:
The main push along the Sinyang-Nanyang-Ankang axis will begin in a few days, after a few Chinese strugglers are pushed back and Loyang is captured tomorrow.

- AKE Kashiro has a hard time rearming so many ships and loading supplies from Johnston island. The support train must be moved to Kwajalein.

Don't forget all this info....[;)]
Engineers:
The “name” of a device does not matter, only the device data matters. Any Eng unit can always build, but if it has Anti-Armor <1, it cannot reduce forts. If it has Anti-Soft <9, it cannot AV. If it is “named” Construction or Labor Eng, but is a Type = 23 (squad), it will not build. If it also has a-a <1, and a-s <9, it won’t do anything but eat (i.e., nothing but ‘bodies’). So there is a matrix of different Eng squads that represent a mix of abilities; build stuff, reduce forts, able to AV, some of the above, none of the above. DaBigBabes uses this matrix (according to our appreciation as to how it falls out) to help limit in-game tempo, by limiting in-game infrastructure.

Shore Party:
Shore Party is a sub-set of Nav Sup. Shore Party devices assist in loading/unloading but do not assist in repairing or rearming. Repair/rearm bases were very far and few between, for both sides, and thus with BigBabes, but both sides recognized an imperative for stevedoring and non-integral lift capability. Thus Shore Partys and a skoosh of code that lets them give an unload bonus to TFs. A Shore Party switch may be set for a Vehicle, such as an LVT-2 Amph Trac; It may be set for a Type = 24 Eng squad, like USA Port Srvc Sq, in which case it may also help build; It may be set for a Type = 23 Squad, like USA Amph Sup Sq.

Check the editor often, and become familiar with all the different kinds of units available. For example:

USMC Pioneer Sq – Squad type – No Build, Yes AV, Yes Shore Party, No Reduce Forts
USN Constr Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, Yes AV, No Shore Party, No Reduce Forts
USN Spec Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, No AV, Yes Shore Party, No Reduce Forts
USN Base Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, No AV, Yes Shore Party, No Reduce Forts
USA Port Svc Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, No AV, Yes Shore Party, No Reduce Forts
USA Amph Sup Sq – Squad type – No Build, Yes AV, Yes Shore Party, No Reduce Forts

IJA Shipping Eng Sq – Squad type – No Build, No AV, No Reduce Forts, Yes Shore Party, LC = 17
IJA Cmbt Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, Yes AV, Yes Reduce Forts, No Shore Party, LC = 17
IJA Const Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, No AV, No Reduce Forts, No Shore Party, LC = 17
IJA Const Labor Sq – Squad type – No Build, No AV, No Reduce Forts, No Shore Party, LC = 20
IJN Const Eng Sq – Eng type – Yes Build, No AV, No Reduce Forts, No Shore Party, LC = 17
IJN Const Labor Sq – Squad type – No Build, No AV, No Reduce Forts, No Shore Party, LC = 20

So IJ Const Labor doesn’t 'do' anything and, what’s more, has a larger load cost. This represents the large manual labor component (Chinese/Korean) that results in 1000 man Eng Bns/Rgts without giving much additional capability. Typical IJA Const Bns/Rgts have 32 Const squads (590 ‘men’, 1088 total with the support, etc.), but 16 squads are Const Eng, while 16 are Const Labor. It's a way to have 32 squad (1000 man) Bns/Rgts with half the capability of a corresponding 32 squad Allied unit.

Even though many squad devices don’t ‘do’ anything (and many Eng devices can’t assault), they are still marginally useful (apart from the Eng devices being able to build). Anti-Soft = 8 (typically) so these units may still ‘shoot’ during the pre-assault fire phase. They ‘shoot’ better than the default firepower of a 251 Eng or 252 Sup device, so that’s something.

Different load costs also allow Const Bns/Rgts to be tailored as to troop count and, therefore, load ability and troop population on atolls and small islands.

Quiet turn. Most IJA divs are resting.

Eastern Operation:
- 21st Air Flottila wastes torpedoes against a few allied DDs.
- KB is on its way to Baker.

Philippines/Eastern DEI:
- Takao as an air base from which to attack Luzon isn't working. Range and overstacking reduce sorties. Half the medium bomber strength is redeployed to China.
- Preparations for a two pronged advance in the DEI are underway. The aim is to conquer the rest of Borneo and eastablish bases at Kendari & Ambon. BatDiv1(Nagato & Mutsu) will rebase at Boaldabdeol[:'(] with a Lima class AKE supporting them. Land forces to be employed: 2 IJA regiments, plus 4 SNFL battalions.

Burma:
- The sweep over Rangoon goes well. Lost 10 Oscars in return for 18 kills.

China:
- The Ankang air drop idea is a failure, because we can't air lift any restricted IJA divs, even in bases under the same command HQ. Wasted about 50 PPs and possibly revealed my hand too early here. 1st Raiding Rgt will be air lifted out.
- The first major battles in the theatre occured today in the Nanyang-Sinyang area. 3 Chinese Corps' are trashed (250 inf squads destroyed, 70 disabled).
- Wenchow is besieged. This will take a long time, but it doesn't affect our offensive in the center. The 13th Army is tasked with defending Hankow and Shanghai. If the Chinese attack there, we can react quickly.
- 4 DDs and 1 CLs will be based at Shnghai in order to conduct daily bombardments at Wenchow.
Ground combat at Wenchow (89,58)
Japanese Bombardment attack
