Camera Controls

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Camera Controls

Post by User1984 »

I have taken a look at the Manual and am in the process of going through the Tutorial, however,
I am experiencing a lot of frustration with the camera controls.

I have the following questions:

Is there a way to quickly move the camera to a distant part of the battlefield?

What is up with the HITS view? I press the F Key and the camera locks to the unit however the view is extremely
close, and the graphics are horrible. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to lock the camera to a unit and then
pan around the unit to look at it from all angles. I can't move the camera away from the selected unit to actually see
it and what it is doing. The GUI does not indicate when the F view is selected or deselected.

I want to be able to quickly select a unit, lock onto it and be able to move the camera around the unit and zoom in or out.

How can I select a unit and quickly jump to it's location?

The camera controls in this game seem very clunky and difficult to use. Is this game still in Beta?

I did not research all the hotkeys, etc. I got through the tutorial easy by hitting "M" (the map), clicking on area of interest, and ESC to go back. Also right-click and hold on lower menu (not map view) for quick camera rotation.

Rosseau is correct. If you click on the map you go the area of interest immediately.

F is not HITS view, it is a follow camera mode that can be turned on and off. Proper HITS must be enabled in the menu - use a 'custom' difficulty option and set the 'camera distance' to 10m or 20m whatever you like best. This give you a freer camera but restricts your view nicely. Some of the HITS MP groups play with 2m camera distance.

There is an option in the menu - camera stay with OOB move. If you turn that off, when you select a unit in the OOB window on the side you will instantly jump to that unit. There is also a go-tome and go to unit button on the toolbar.
