The weapon range

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

The weapon range

The weapon range - where do I find it?
How do I know the distance remaining to the opponents of the shootout begins?

You clan click Weapon in the menu. It will show you the weapon details.
Then on the upper left, you see the range to enemy unit.

The unit info box in the upper left hand of the screen lists the range to the target. You may not have it turned on, it is in the main-menu options from what I remember. If not there check the in-game options.

From Scourge of War: Gettysburg.

Now that is a clear statement.
The rifle has a range of 160 yards.
And at a range of 160 yds my men start to shoot at the enemy.

Are there such information in SOWW?

Yes, it is there. Look in the weapon tab on the bottom right - we have more info in that.

So, there is no overlay on the screen when you have units selected, to graphically show their firing range? How do you know when you are close to getting within the range of the weapon?

There is a window in the upper left corner showing you how far the enemy are away and who you are currently targeting. They will start firing when the enemy are in range.

Are those ranges listed the real range or the scaled down range? Similar to the troop unit numbers listed not being what is shown.

The map is set so that it covers 4.96 miles per side. Weapon distances are equivalent to map scale. Sprites are enlarged so unit frontage is correct but ensuring sprite numbers are not prohibitive on FPS. Buildings are scaled to match sprites.

Thank you. A graphical representation showing firing range is just easier to see at a glance, for example if you want to stop your troops just outside firing range, or just outside the enemies firing range.

This isn't like other wargames - ranges are similar, but if you have the advantage, try to stop outside the enemy range and try to snipe at them, they will advance and fire on you. The infantry know to stop and fire when they are being fired at. If you want to close the range - you can tell them to advance under fire, or turn the Ai off and force an attack

Ok, thank you for the clarification. The game sounds excellent, and I'm almost ready to pull the trigger and offer more money to the gaming gods.
