Rotating and Advancing Single Brigades

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Rotating and Advancing Single Brigades

Post by davelogan69 »

Hi all,
Is there a way to tell a single unit to advance (to get maximum firepower on an enemy brigade) or rotate left or right in place (without giving them a new right click destination). I am coming to this game mostly from ANGV and WNLB. I did play SOWG and it did have such a command. Am I just missing it?
Thanks,
Dave

should be able to do this by right clicking on the unit flag and select the appropriate action for wheel commands when stationary (or use hotkey , and .)

use hotkeys to advance 300 yards (see the in game help menu > hotkeys to see the list)

The 1,2,3,4 keys solve the advancing, but the quick menu only gives me a flanking move, not a rotation in place (e.g. instead of the line looking like this: / I want them to rotate to face forward, this: - while staying in the same spot - i.e. a rotation on the axis of the middle of the brigade) which is what I am looking for.

Edit: I found them on the Extended Toolbar Mod. There should be a hotkey for this. Also the floating menu is a little irritating as I seem to have to move it to the side of the screen repeatedly.

yes you're right. either use the , and . hotkeys to wheel or install the grog toolbar which has just about everything buttonised.

cheers

You can also use the courier. There's a specific command to wheel. Actually there are so many ways to play this game. The bad part is that no one method has all the stuff we need. Courier can't be precise on map locations but super flexible in chaining commands. It also results into more orderly placement of troops. Right click context menu is efficient, can indicate a point on the map, and can chain commands but is limited to a few essential commands. The traditional UI buttons (default and grog) don't also show all possible commands but has the volley command and some essentials like TC when you don't require any map clicking. There's also the hot keys. I use all of them (except grog) which is not ideal but necessary.

Hi,

I too struggled to work out how to rotate units.

Maybe need to highlight it a little in the manual. Is a very important feature when micromanaging..

All the best,
Kip.

Couple of things:

- floating toolbars (2) on the Grog toolbar only have to be moved once, not repeatedly. Get them where you want them the first time. They are designed to line up right above the stationary toolbar, similar commands should show you the intended way...default resolution demonstrates this intention.

- direction arrow works great for me, just took figuring it out. Click dest, right click hold and sweep it in the direction you wish it to point. Trying to turn it with the cursor on it is practically impossible to control, leading to madness. HITS folks obviously can't control this because they can't see it, no option but to use wheel commands.
