Withdrawing Finish Units 1.08.03

Post by RBednar »

I have noticed in the Campaign 1941-1945 that half of the starting Finish Army withdraws before January 1942. This was not happening in earlier versions. Since half of the rather small Finnish Army goes away, the Russian side can easily annihilate it. Is this really working as intended? The withdrawls are automatic, and show up in the reinforcement list. They apparently do not return. I do not think Finland would send the troops to the northern part of the country.

I think they actually partially demobilized. Their starting army was not supportable in the long run by a country of this size, and they saw the Germans will not blitz USSR.

This withdrawing has always been there, they get some other units as reinforcement though. I have no data on this so I can only assume they were sent north towards Murmansk.
And yes, the AI has problems to cope with this loss as they are usually placed at the Leningrad front.

Wiki:
Finland had prepared for a short war, but in late autumn it was clear that there would be no decisive outcome in the short term. Finnish troops suffered losses during their advance; and, overall, German victory became uncertain as German troops were halted near Moscow. The Finnish economy suffered from a lack of labour, food shortages, and increased prices. The Finnish government had to demobilize part of the army so that industrial and agricultural production would not collapse.

This amount of withdrawls were not in earlier versions.
One very important reason for taking Leningrad early was to be able to use the Finnish Army
in the south. Currently the army is so small, it is almost useless.
When I was playing against the German AI, I would have loved to have this happen!
Where in the world would this valuable troops be withdrawn to?

Referencing , its seems the IVth Corps
(Divisions 4, 17, and 18) should still be there on the western part, and
Division 1 on the right part.

The Leningrad front was the primary front.
All of Finland's important cities and industry are
right behind the front there.

I have played 4 campaign games and never saw this magnitude withdrawl before.

By June 1942, the 1st Division looks like it was transferred out, but the 8th and 17th Divisions are still in the Karelian. http://www.axishistory.com/axis-nations/finland/134-campaigns-a-operations/campaigns-a-operations/1927-24-june-1942-the-buildup-to-fall-blau
