Attach commanders to a specific theatre command.

Post by stubby331 »

Its seems ridiculous to me that potentially one day I could have a Naval Admiral in command of a task force in SOPAC and the next day he could be commanding a task force attacking the Aleutians.

With the size of WITP its seems logical to me to attach a General staff “pool” to each theatre of operations and have commanders transfer between theatres. EG ABDA, SOPAC SWPAC CENPAC etc…

For example: If you want to appoint a particular admiral from SOPAC to the Aleutians you would have to transfer him from one theatre coomand to another with the penalty being lets say a weeks “travelling” to the new appointment. (he would be unavailable for that week).

This would more accurately reflect the sort of distances transferring commanders had to travel to take over their new commands and add a another factor to consider when planning.

Thoughts?

I like it as well. More realistic than the current system.

Ditto. And while we're at it, let's assign an actual function or two to naval HQs.

Have thought this was silly for a long time. Magically wisking away commanders to reappear instantly miles away on the same day. Just plain dumb. Yes this has to be fixed for WITP!!!

Actually transferring them long distances should probably incur risks as it did in the real war. Many commanders fell victim to accidents, sub attacks, air attacks, (Yamamoto) etc...

For one day turns it is unrealistic, but if the turns are a week long-ala PacWar- then the immediate transfers are realistic. If the transfer is through contested areas there should be a possibility of interdiction by plane or sub.
