Paclink

Post by toolsey62 »

Hello New player here
I have really enjoyed reading the AARs , and had not realised at the time what a great game this was and now I am coming up for retirement and ordered a couple of pacific war books plus the original games for the manuals and decided to refight the campaign
After reading various posts in this forum and having original discs of Pacific war plus Matrix version and Carrier strike I was wondering if anybody had downloads of the paclink mod and the Carrier strike graphic and sound zip available for me which I have viewed on the websites on the wayback machine unfortunately the downloads were not available and I have been searching the Internet for these.
In any case hello to people who are still playing this and best wishes

Toolsey,

I am unsure what 'paclink' is, but somewhere I have some files for the original SSI game that include pacpaths, tanker.exe (puts all the IJN tankers back in Osaka), pac121.exe (patch that GG released to the people on the old Pacwar mailing list at some point in the late 90s), and pacedit, a dos editor that was released by Bear Yeager way back then. The matrix version has a few more things added, but also has some hard code changes that make the game a bit different. Some I like, some not so much. Email me on ##hr2462@###y7mail.##com (delete the hash marks) and I'll try and find them and send. I don't look at that email very often, so best you post here that email sent, so I see it.

Edit: Nagoya not Osaka.

You can use the matrix editor spreadsheet files to change the database entries for both versions, but beware - some original data file airgroup slots are hardwired to their carriers' ship slots in the data base in any version, so you need to keep those ones assigned to a carrier in the linked ship slot. Its easier to see those in the matrix editor - look at the ship slots the historical carriers are in, then sort the airgroup files by the base identification

Ian
Thanks for the download , as a matter of interest I have both the newer versions of this game but for some reason I like the original better.
