Ok after reading another thread by stultus I have tracked the problem to a sound file. Renaming my SOUND folder (and playing without sound) fixes the crash. Now I just need to sort out why

I note this fix for anyone else experiencing sudden lock/freeze ups. I ran a CODEC clean-up program and discovered I had two corrupt codec fragments. I then installed the latest k-lite codec pack. Happy bunny now

I love this program too much to play it in total silence
