[ANSWERED] slow performance?

Post by Gneckes »

Hi guys,
I've been noticing that, when even a few hundred units are on screen (e.g. Iron Hand 2014 scenario) my simulation performance would go to crap, only getting a one-second progress every 5-10 seconds.
Disabling Windows Aero has helped quite a bit, but occasionally things still slow down.
I'm running a Phenom II X4 965 CPU and 8 GB of RAM, and a AMD R9 270 GPU. neither RAM usage nor CPU load is extensive. GPU drivers are up-to-date.
Any ideas for improving performance?

Run in time-acceleration instead of staying at 1-1. At 1-1 mode the simulation runs at 0.1-sec slices (ie. every real second the game game has to run the sim code and refresh the map *10 times*), whereas at any acceleration setting the sim switches to 1-sec slices. The difference is immediate and obvious.

Alternatively, you can disable "Hi-fidelity mode" through the Game Options.

That is pretty slow...
I dont think this is in the FAQ: sometimes the sim appears to slow down after a while, saving, closing the program and re-loading it sometimes solves this.

There is also a thread lying around somewhere (found it: tm.asp?m=3828564) about a program called "park control" which can apparently help get the most out of multiple cores or something like that, some people have reported significant improvements.

Process Lasso might be a better solution. You can set Command as a high priority process and it will manage a bunch of stuff for you like core parking.

For what it's worth, I just downloaded and tried Project Lasso from the site referenced. It provided an amazing increase in performance on my Windows 7 system. Previously I seldom noticed any significant improvement above the 5sec (5x) setting in CMANO. With the Lasso app running settings up to 1min (60x) are seem usable. I highly recommend this for CMANO. FYI, I am not affiliated in any way with the app's sales or development.

From the FAQ
Turning off these will make the game run much smoother as the simulator makes far fewer calculations per second, running at 1 second resolution rather than 1/10 second resolution.

Does disabling high-fi mode affect things like how well the AI performs and weapon accuracy?

Process Lasso

Do you have to do anything specific to this program to prioritize CMNAO or does it do it automatically in the background?
