Who is willing to publishh a huge campaign covering the invasion of Japan?

Post by RolandRahn_MatrixForum »

OK, I finished my first campaign.

It puts the player in command of the hypothetical invasion of Japan, 1945/1946.

However, it wasn't playtested (I searched for playtesters more than a year ago, but I did only receive some [very valuable] feedback for the first scenarios).

It is my first design work and therefore, it had some drawbacks.

I learned a lot while designing the campaign, but I wasn't able to correct some errors I made in the beginning (especially regarding the size of the forces involved).

I would like to rewrite it, but I really don't have the time to do so.

If you want to play a computer generated Campaign (USMC/USArmy vs. Japanese), this campaign might be an interesting alternative.

If you want to play something that has the quality of a WBW-Campaign - forget it.

Here are the data:

Slot: 31

Sides:
USMC, USArmy, Allies vs. Japanese

Time: November 1945 - Summer 1946

Locations: Kyushu (Operation Olympic) & Honsho (Operation Coronet)

Very large forces, sometimes huge maps.

File size: 2.4 MB

Is there anyone willed to publish it on his/her website?

I have a very slow internet connection, so I won't be able to send it more than a few times.

Kind regards,
Roland

Hi everyone,

since so far no one has volunteered to publish the campaign, I will now send it via email to those who want to have it.

However, I have a *very* slow internet connection (takes approx. 20+ minutes to send the files), and there has been some trouble today trying to send the 2.4 MB-attachment.

Therefore, everyone who wants to have the campaign shall send me an email until May 1st to:

Roland.Rahn@cityweb.de

On the evening of May 1st (european time), I will send the campaign to everyone who has emailed me.

The campaign is split into 10 Zip-Files each smaller than 300 KB, so I will send 10 emails with one attachment to those who want to have the campaign (note: the email is send to everyone at the same time, so the recipients will be able to see each others email-address).

Unzipped, it has 413 files (12.4 MB).

Kind regards,
Roland

This is a very nice effort.
Try to contact Redleg, he has a nice scenario publisher site.

Hi!

Let's start with some self-criticism:
The size of the core force is simply too large for this type of campaign.

I ended my test-play of the campaign with the following core force (after starting with a core force that consisted of lots of cheap units like recon teams):
A0 USMC HQ
B0-B2 USMC Assault engineers
C0-C2 USMC Assault engineers
D0-D2 USMC Assault engineers
E0-E2 USMC Assault engineers
F0-F2 USMC Assault engineers
G0-G2 USMC Assault engineers
H0-H2 USMC Assault engineers
I0-I2 USMC Assault engineers
J0-J2 USMC Assault engineers
K0-K2 USMC Assault engineers
L0-L2 USMC Assault engineers
M0-M2 USMC Assault engineers
N0-N4 Sherman Mineclearing tanks
O0-O4 Sherman Mineclearing tanks
P0-P3 Sherman flamethrowers
Q0-Q3 Sherman flamethrowers
R0-R3 Sherman flamethrowers
S0-S3 Sherman flamethrowers
T0-T3 Sherman flamethrowers
U0-U4 M7 105 mm SPA
V0-V4 M7 105 mm SPA
W0-W3 Ammo transports
X0-X1 Ammo transports

I increased the points for the core force (and decreased the supply points for the first scenario) to make sure that the player will have a big force in the later scenarios (especially in Kagoshima and in Tokyo he will need such a huge force), but this now makes the first scenarios too easy...

It would have been wiser to have the player commanding a small core force (one Headquarter and one platoon of tanks).

This would have lead to much more realistic smaller scenarios, while it would have been possible to have some big battles with lots of units already on the map and/or huge numbers of supply points.

A player who does well in the first 10 battles will have an invincible elite core force that walks over the Japanese, a player who detects too many minefields by running his tanks into them in the first battles will have serious problems in some of the bigger, later scenarios....

I suggest that everyone who has difficulties with the Kagoshima scenarios either increases the number of supply points or simply jump over them by editing the campaign.

Looking back, these scenarios lead to trench warfare with many problems (simply using artillery to suppress the enemy and than roll him over doesn't work due to the huge amount of mines used in these scenarios - these are placed in front of the japanese defense lines).

I started creating the campaign in March 2001 (with SPWAW 4.4), and looking back I regard it less as an effort to create a campaign and more as an effort to learn how to create a campaign ;)

Just an Idea.

Hi!

I think a similar campaign with huge forces, (let's say regiment size) with 1 or 2 companies of panzer core, cca. 5 scenarios in the Kursk area would attract a very big attention in this community.
This would simulate that a higher command has a small but elite force under direct command, in order to throw it where it is most needed.

Just an idea.

Basically an interesting idea, but I wanted a huge pacific campaign.
Back in March 2001 (when I started working on it), there was no huge pacific campaign.
I thought that USMC vs. Japanese would be a niche that could be filled out with a campaign written by a beginner....
I was shocked when I learned that a Mega campaign would be published playing in the PTO  ;) .

Appears to have come through just fine.. thanks! Now, with any luck I can find/replace the vans driver seat/passenger-side mirror/drivers-side wiper arm/sparkplugs/air filter and still have enough time to start in on the campaign this weekend... <G>

RolandRahn, I like the idea and the tenacity you have to go forth and do it. Agreed, though, on size: about 100 units (not formations, but units) is as far as you need to go for size.
