Why won't my bombers bomb what I tell them to?

Seems like no matter what I do I can't get my Allied bombers to bomb the ports at Messina and Reggio Calabria. Latest attempt I had ports checked as the only target type, made those two cities the only targets--and the planes go and bomb Salerno (which is not an invasion target or anywhere near the front lines). This kind of thing has happened on multiple occasions. What the fuck?

I have no idea of your level of experience so forgive me if I ask you a stupid question. Do you have the 'area' button on your bombing raids set to zero?

That one will get you.
If it is not that, are you sure it is the same airgroups attacking Salerno?

Thanks for the tip on the area button--the green area that came up on the screen when I set the missions was about 3x3, which definitely did not include Salerno.

Air groups will not bomb targets that they consider to be at 100% damage. Use Strategic Recon ADs to keep a (slightly) more accurate picture of the state of the industries.
