The Calcutta bombardment wasn't as bad as I feared. Only 3 planes were destroyed. Lots were damaged, but that's just a minor inconvenience.

Enemy bombers hit Bandoeng on Java and Zamboanga in the Philippines, as usual.
In the jungle near Chittagong, Sallys escorted by Tojos hit an Indian battalion.
I checked some of my Indian units, and most are updated to 1942 squads. I do have a couple of divisions that I've moved into the rear area of Burma just in case, and these are not upgraded. I probably spent too many '42 squads filling out units instead of saving them for upgrades. I'll finish that job now when I can.
Generally quiet.
I've moved some engineers and base support to Baker Island, but no real troops yet.
I'm moving a para unit to the Solomons. They are prepared to drop on Ontong Java, north of Tulagi. My intel shows a very small enemy support unit there. It would be a nice base for early warning of ships from Truk. And an attack here would show continued progress in the Solomons while I'm really not doing anything for awhile. Lots of combat shipping, including carriers and cruisers, will refit in October.
I plan on a big distribution of forces to already held islands in the Aleutians starting in October. I hope that this is not noticed, but if it is, it'll be a decent diversion to renewed activity in the South Pacific in November.
I am starting my experiment in far northern India/China. I've built the most northeastern Indian base, far in the mountains closest to China, to a 2 airfield. I will be expanding the nearest Chinese base soon. It is a 1. I want to see if airlifted supply there will redistribute into the rest of China. That base is at the end of a very long bad trail. Worth investigating, especially with enemy troops just 2 hexes from Ledo.

Because of the map projection, I'm not sure "NE India" is right. Are you talking about a base somewhere in Kashmir (?) trying to supply western China? And do you think the Japanese can really take or cut off Ledo in your game? How are the Japanese troops along the India/Burma border getting any supplies? [&:]
RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
I'm sure that you are right jwolf. I was referring to the part of the map that is near the top, far to the right of Karachi, in the mountains. Basically trying to airlift supply to China at the top of the map.
I don't think that Ledo is threatened for now. It could easily be bombed though. So far, that hasn't happened.

Zamboanga is invaded. It has been isolated for many months and will fall quickly.
In Burma, recon confirms that the Imperial Guard Division has moved east from Cox's Bazaar and is continuing to the east into the jungle. This is another big indication of an offensive coming through the jungle. I've previously gotten SigInt of another infantry unit prepping for Imphal. I'm sending the huge Chinese corp that was at Calcutta to Imphal now.
I don't mind a slow moving enemy offensive in the jungle, as long as it doesn't break out into India. Stalemate here is what I want.

hi apb,
sorry but I don't see a Gilgit/Kashgar airbridge having a net positive effect - OTOH, any supply you can bring to China is a good thing. But don't expect a miracle, I'd imagine that most of that supply will disappear in transit along the road, as op-losses mount in your C-47 groups.
wrt the Aleutians, your reinf-bump will occur during the Nov-Feb 'cold weather' months, when Engrs are half-value for construction (manual 12.0), bring lots of SeaBees! Adak is of course your focus, but the 3 western-most Aleutians can be built to base 4EBs attacking Paramushiro-Jima.

Thanks jmalter. I'll try the northern China supply route for awhile and see what happens. I'm only using 2 small air groups for the test.
As for the Aleutians, I just want to sneak in units to all of the islands I want, all at once, and unobserved. The enemy holds the most western Aleutian island, but hasn't shown any interest further east, except for an occasional sub poking around.
I want to present some kind of interest in the area as we approach 1943.

Zamboanga falls the the IJA 33rd Infantry Regiment.
Still getting the more than occasional heavy activity reported at Kwajalein. I'm still guessing that KB is there, waiting to pounce on a move into the Marshalls.
More information about enemy troops in Burma. I spot 7 units at Cox's Bazaar, 4 units just to the east of that. The Imperial Guard Division disappeared 2 hexes east of Cox's Bazaar, in the jungle, headed east. I spot 10 units at Magwe, which seems unusually high. I again get SigInt that the 1st Tank Division is at Rangoon. That division could be sitting there to fill out after forming. It may move north into Burma for an offensive. Or it could load up at Rangoon for a landing at Chittagong (or wherever). I'll try to keep an eye on that one. I also get word that the 146 Infantry Regiment is at Rangoon also.
Today a small convoy with supply will dock at Tulagi and hopefully not get bombed. Another small convoy with troops arrives at Rennell Island, and I hope the same. I put one fighter group at each base, but that's not enough as the enemy has always attacked with multiple fighter groups sweeping one location. I don't expect a concerted attack until the next day, after he sees the ships there.
Other than that, lots of stuff moving around. Battleship Washington is near Pago Pago but I see that it arrived on the map already overdue on a refit, so it heads directly to Auckland.

Snapper spots an unusual task force near Ponape: 2 CL, 6 DD, 1 PB, 1 DMS. Looks like my opponent's invasion task forces, minus the transports. He likes to mix in patrol boats and minesweepers. There has been unknown high activity in the Kwajalein area, so who knows what is going on.
The one interesting thing I have plotted is a super long range bombing of Hong Kong's port from Ledo with LB-30s. Maybe I'll be lucky and find something there. If not, it will help start to give the impression that no base is safe from the Allied heavy bombers.

Cebu is bombed. Cebu is probably the next target on the Philippine cleanup campaign.
Enemy artillery attack at Bandoeng, Java, same as every day. My supply will last a long time here.
One enemy unit moved from Calcutta to Diamond Harbour, probably for air or sea evacuation. I think it was an artillery unit. My daily artillery attack at Calcutta gets a really good roll, causing 219 casualties, with 1 destroyed combat squad, and 19 disabled combat squads and 1 disabled non-combat squad. Better than usual.
My long range bombing of Hong Kong from Ledo does not occur. Rescheduled for today.
I have ships unloading at Tulagi, Lunga, and Rennell Islands now. No enemy attack yesterday. We'll see about today.

Seems like he moved out his best arty counterbattery unit so your arty now dominates. Probably evacuating heavy arty to use elsewhere.

RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
Any chance you could drive him out of Calcutta now?
RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
He still has 2 infantry divisions at Calcutta, with 5 other units, mostly artillery. So no, not with what I have at Calcutta right now. I'd consider it if I had the 2 Brit infantry divisions and my several tank units there, but they are holding the fort at Chittagong and protecting inland Burma now.
The terrain bonus at Calcutta is a big defensive bonus. If he drops down to 1 infantry division, then I'll try an attack.
I did just recently move my big Chinese corp out of Calcutta and they are on the way to the Burma front.

RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
OK how about bombing the enemy troops at Calcutta? Or are your bombers still occupied with more pressing business?
RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
I haven't been bombing the troops in Calcutta, but I have kept the enemy airfield at Diamond Harbour shut down, and got the port damage up into the 40's. I've occasionally switched off to targets in Burma just to keep the enemy guessing, but some of those bases are pretty well defended with fighters.
My strategy so far has been to keep the Diamond Harbour airfield shut down, since earlier in the war, there were over 100 enemy fighters there, and I couldn't break through and had horrendous losses. I'm bombing the port because I want any evacuation of enemy troops to go as slowly as possible. At some point, there won't be enough enemy troops to keep me from attacking, and I should win a battle at Diamond Harbour in clear terrain.
That's the theory, anyhow.

I'd been thinking that I had shut down Diamond Harbour, but either I had not, and/or planes are flying LR CAP from Burma. I think the former.
I was continuing to bomb the airfield, but not at maximum effort. I got caught on the 14th, with Zeros and Oscars appearing in force over Diamond Harbour. I lose 10 P40E, 6 Wellingtons, 9 Hurris, 2 B26s, and 1 B25. Bombing results were poor. Enemy losses were 7 Zeros and 8 Oscars.
My LB-30's do fly to Hong Kong and find a Nate Sentai training. 2 Nates are shot down. No hits on the port. I wanted to show that everywhere is vulnerable, in theory.
On the 15th, I do a maximum effort to Diamond Harbour, and find that Tojos have joined the Zeros and Oscars. Bombing is moderately good. I lose 14 Hurris, 7 Wellingtons, 4 P40s, 4 B25s, 3 P39s, and 2 B17s. The enemy loses 7 Zeros, 5 Oscars, and 1 Tojo.
Some of these must be flying LR CAP from Burma. I didn't hit many planes on the ground. I will keep up the heavy pressure.
Elsewhere, on these 2 days, the enemy did recon on Adak and Ulak in the Aleutians. This is the first time that any enemy recon has been done. The enemy took Attu early, and it's now built up to a level 2 airfield.
It bothers me some that this happened right after I discussed my upcoming plans in the Aleutians. I hope that there isn't any cross-thread talk. I may have to talk more about what I've done and less about what I'm going to do.
It's probably just a coincidence, and I'll assume that for now.

I follow both threads (and comment a bit in each) and to the best of my knowledge there hasn't been any security leak in either direction. My bet is simply that your opponent independently decided it was time for some recon up there.
RE: See you in Tokyo Bay - Apbarog(A) vs Walker(J) DBB-B Scen28
Thanks jwolf. I'm glad to hear that.
I've accelerated my efforts at occupying Adak. I would like to get there before the enemy. Transports are moving to pick up assigned units, but it will be some time before getting to the area.

Apparently you two haven't really had any interaction in the Aleutians until now? I'm surprised Adak would be up for grabs for so long. Quite a contrast to my game (also Allies) where it's only late March and already I have lost the entire island chain and I'm barely holding at Cold Bay.
